More Waitlists then Rejections?

That what it seems like the decisions have been. I myself was waitlisted. I just thought that this was a tad peculiar.

Insane number of rejections for international students.

I would expect a lot of waitlists, but definitely not more than rejections. I think it just might seem that way because very few people who get rejected feel compelled to post, while some who are waitlisted might be hopeful.

Also those who post on CC are a very limited sample of the UofC applicant group.

Figures suggest that the RD acceptance rate was below 11%. I highly doubt that UChicago waitlisted over 40% of the RD pool.

40%? Isn’t that way too high as an upper limit as well?

I was exaggerating more than anything. It just appears like Chicago has quite a bit of waitlists this year

you guys should take a stats course. of course the rejected people arent going to feel compelled to reply.

Preliminary reports from my school for RD: 0 accepted, 2 deferred>rejected, 1 rejected, 1 waitlisted.

^ ouch. is this year’s acceptance rate released yet?

for us international apps, the rej rate is unbelivable high
i myself got rej

ummmmmmmm there are definitely more rejects than waitlists, but the notion that rejects don’t post on CC as much as waitlists doesn’t hold true at all. It just means that the CC pool is stronger than the average group of chicago applicants. During December if you looked at the Stanford SCEA results from CCers it was honestly a complete massacre with TONS of people denied. With Yale, TONS of people of people were deferred. I think its just that people on CC tend to be stronger academically if they are on a college website.

Ehh, also got waitlisted. Just got the letter today. I dunno, it’s sort of a sigh of relief and I do feel like people who were denied would be less compelled to reply… at least, that’s how I felt when I got rejected at one of my other schools :(

Also bear in mind that although this applying class is smaller than last year’s, more kids are applying to more schools. Knowing that, as an adcom, I personally would have moved to put more kids on the waitlist because of the inevitable fallout that comes when each student has to pick one school to attend of the nine they applied to, or something ridiculous like that.

(I read an article on MSN about this which is where I"m getting my stats, I’ll try to find it but it was awhile ago)
