More Advantage?

I am a high school student from Georgia and my dream college is Emory University. I have pretty good grades, but since Emory is a very good school, I know there’s a good chance of getting rejected. I took Chinese in high school and I had good grades. I want to major in Chemistry, but since Chemistry is a very common major, I might get rejected by declaring my major as Chemistry. Since Chinese isn’t so common, can I declare my major as Chinese and be more advantageous in my admissions? I’m thinking to get accepted first as just a Chinese major, then add another major later on (Chemistry). What are your thoughts on my idea?

Do you like Chinese? It might be easier to get accepted but I don’t know how hard it is to switch majors at Emory. In that case you would get stuck with Chinese.

I’m almost certain that Emory does not admit students based on stated majors.

I like Chinese. I’m thinking to double major in Chinese and Chem.

I don’t know whether one can leverage a choice of majors into a greater chance of acceptance, but I do know that you are in no way required to major in your application’s stated major once you’re accepted.

@dlee627 : Likely doesn’t matter. If there was something that can put you at risk, it would be stating and over-emphasizing being pre-med or something. Being interested in chemistry and Chinese and being able to display those passions through your academic profile and essays is the best way to circumvent the non-issue you brought up.
