Any help appreciated

anyone rent an apt/house from “Southern Assets?” What was the company like to deal with?

doesn’t $700 per month, unfurnished, utilities extra, mandatory 12 month lease sound excessive? That would be for half a bedroom in 5 bedroom apt (not all rooms are doubles)

Even though he is tired of USC housing- the thought of buying furniture-bed,desk, table to eat on etc, plus paying to hold the apt this summer sounds a rip off. Any insight from present or recent students?

I would not want to pay for summer rent unless my son was going to work or go to summer school. Also, the rent sounds like a lot, but rents are very high in LA.

I guess the 12 month lease is pretty standard. Someone else told me they had to eat 2 months rent so their kid could get the apt. I hear it is pretty common and few offer 10 month school year lease.

If you are going to be a junior next year, you might want to consider study abroad for a year or semester (which would reduce the need for an apartment near USC).

There are some advantages to a 12-month lease--you can store things over the summer for yourself and friends (they can pay you a little to offset the cost), you could sublet, you can return whenever you want--during the year & in fall, you could get a job & intern or take summer courses, etc.
