I'm posting for all those people who were "shocked they were waitlisted" and realizing that "They want to increase their yield."

Washington University has been in the top 20 for quite a while now...and there's no way they are going to move up in the rankings; they aren't ever going to compare with schools like HYP...
However, having gained a reputation, perhaps Washington is actually starting to become REALLY selective?! Did that ever cross into peoples' mind? At other ivies and comparable schools, no one would complain that a student with a 1500 got waitlisted simply because the school wanted higher rankings. That's the case with Washington now as well. IF you actually look at the decisions, most people with 1400s DID get waitlisted (and they seem super ****ed too for some reason). Is that not true with other schools? And although there may be kids with high 1500s who did get waitlisted as well, maybe they just didn't fit in with the school. Most kids with 1500s DID get in, so it's not like they are rejecting kids with high scores...

are you Russian? No malice intended jus wanted to know ( i did crime and punishment tis year and your name sounded russian liek the ones in the books:))

hence i doubt it rejects "overqualified" applicants

The most compelling reason if probably because Washington Univ is KNOWN for giving MERIT AID, and not many great schools give merit aid (besides Duke). Why would they waitless "overqualified" applicants if they know they can attract them with their money!?

Wash U already IS ivy caliber. You can tell yourself you got wait-listed because you were "too good", but does that really make that much sense? Why would the school give out so much merit aid? And how many kids are actually accepted from the wait-list? Maybe twenty. How does this swing with the yield-improvement theory? I decided not to apply to any ivies to aviod this superior, country-club, entitled attitude that I see all over this board.

Which is not to say waitlisted students necessarily weren't good enough either. But there were 21,000+ applicants for a class of 1,400. If 500 students (like me) were accepted early, that would leave fewer than 1,000 spots for 21,000 applicants. It only makes sense that the school would be incredibly selective.

"The University's total operating budget is $1.4 billion, and its $4.1 billion endowment places it among the top ten private universities in the United States."

As my friend who was accepted last year said, "Wash U would have offered me a f**king golden toilet to make me happy."

Don't let me get into the Ivy League. They are great schools, but they're not the only great schools. Their reputations are only elevated above schools like Wash U through tradition. True, 26% yield is unimpressive, but Wash U is a school on the rise. Unless I am mistaken, they have the best undergraduate bio program in the country, and the second best med school. I could very well have applied to an Ivy League, but I chose not to because of the bigshot, country-club, entitled menality associated with them. Wash U is trying hard to improve its yield, but if you were really that great of a candidate, they would have offered you $$$.

Rejection sucks, and I appreciate that. Finger-pointing is fun, but at the end of the day don't just settle in with the belief that you're a victim. Or, you can just be a complete tool and go to Princeton, where you might fit in very well.

besides, even if we do talk about rankings, Washington Univ's selectivity is 8, higher than other ivies...

the bottom line is: We got into Washington University. Stop trying to put down people who did. We have the option to attend, but we're not bound to go. If I get rejected from Harvard, I'll be able to go to Washington. If you get rejected, you won't have the option.

Besides, you're planning to attend Cornell? Everyone in the world agrees that Cornell is the S**t ivy, the safety of safeties. It's kids there who love jumping off bridges in the middle of nowhere

Sorry, if you don't like Washington, stay off this board

Yeah! Are you going to be visiting the campus in April? I am attending nonwhitepartyweekend! (Multicultural Celebration Weekend) and I am SO EXCITED. I printed out my Russian placement exam sign-up form and I almost crapped my pants. I'm going to College! Woooooohoooo!

shostakovich this a free board and unless I am mistaken Washu doesn't require its students to advertise itself and bash other schools on this forum does it?

So Cornell is the s***t ivy? lol poor poor guy. and PUHLEEEESSe if you say someone had cornell as a safety and washu as a top choice keep it to yourself or you'll be a joke to people outside this forum.

Actually, I think it was meant to be an insulting statement. If Ashlee Simpson can be a popstar, maybe an orangutang can be a popstar too! That kind of thing.
