More than 60% of Colgate students study off campus,

I have been informed that mroe than 60% of Colgate students study off campus:
Colgate: Applying to Colgate
This must really affect the campus community etc, any ideal why over half of the students are not attending Colgate campus?
Do you study off campus yourself?

(Had interest in Colgate until finding out that most studunts study off campus)

it refers to study abroad programs…

It’s considered a very positive thing about a school when a lot of people study away.

I think you’re confusing studying off campus with studying abroad. Most students study for their classes on campus–there’s not really anywhere else to go! And many Colgate students take advantage of study abroad programs, and travel for a semester to another country some time during their four years.

There are so many students around that you hardly notice.

It’s really a positive thing to have as many students studying abroad or off-campus in the US elsewhere because it brings a fresh perspective for the student to bring back to Colgate. It’s also nice to get away from the usual grind of campus life (not that there’s anything boring about Colgate). Also, employers like it a lot when you’ve traveled internationally.

Colgate has its own off-campus programs that you can apply to, or you can apply for academic leave of absence and go to another program. Many students go for one semester (because Colgate students are so committed to their lives on campus) and few go for the summer or the whole year. Usually, your choice of major will determine just how much time you can go away, depending on how many courses you need to finish it.

I’am well introduced to study abroad, though thought in general they were talking about students studying off campus with a online program or something.

Nope, they mean Study Abroad. There are no online programs, all classes are on-campus and you actually attend.

Colgate refers to “Study Abroad” as “Off-Campus Study,” but it’s the exact same thing. http://www.colgate.edu/DesktopDefault1.aspx?tabid=963

Pretty much everyone goes their Junior year, so there’s only around 30% of the junior class off campus in the fall or spring. That works out to about 220 students out of 2800 abroad maximum.
