I think I really screwed up my application. I asked 3 teachers for college recs about 2 months ago - my AP lit teacher, my french teacher, and my drama coach of six years. All the other schools to which I am applying don't seem to mind getting 2 or 3 recs; most require 2.

But anyway, I just realized last night that I overlooked the part on the W&M supplement where it states that they "prefer" no more than one rec....and now it's too late to ask my teachers not to send them.

Will they be terribly annoyed that I sent 3 instead of 1? What can i do about this? any advice?

I sent two, and I still got in. But my acceptance letter was covered in what I assume was a mixture of vomit and blood; there was also something about a "special dorm". I'm a little scared, to say the least.

Nah, I'm kidding, at least about the "special dorm". Like I said, I sent in two and I assume that it didn't hurt me that much. My SAT scores were also late and my printer exploded and parts of my teacher evaluation sheets were covered in patches of ink. Needless to say, I was a bit embarasses to send it in. Just bite the bullet and hope that you didn't screw up--it couldn't have been worse than my application.

Moral of the story: READ THE FINE PRINT.

haha, thanks. I think i'll just have to hope for the best...

My son sent in two and they accepted him without admonishment <g>! They will not hold it against you. If you compare the online and paper applications, they actually say different things about the recommendation and the supplemental essay - I seem to remember the confusion.</g>

i think I sent 3 last year... the same ones I sent everywhere else, lol.

i doubt they care that much, it's simply they'd prefer it so they don't have so many papers to sort through. And that way they only get the best one. Definately not something to stress over at all.
