To get to the point right away, I applied EA for UNC and I received an email which told me I was nominated for the Morehead and the Robertson.

I was wondering if since I've been nominated for the scholarship, are my chances of getting in to UNC for the EA higher?

It would be great if anyone knew people who were accepted to UNC after being nominated for the scholarships.

UNC is a great school, and I would really love to go there. If I get the Morehead that would be great, but just getting in to UNC would still be great.

BTW I'm an international student.

There are lots of threads about the Morehead, etc. you might want to look for those threads. You should also go to the Morehead website and read about the program, etc. Lots of information there. Based on what I have read, this is what I know. The Morehead does not influence or control the admissions process. MC is separate from the university. AND, if you have been referred from admissions to MC that is a big deal and would lead me to believe you will be accepted. I believe the next step would be a phone interview with MC. If you are then invited to the scholar interview weekend - you have about a 50% of actually getting the scholarship. It’s a huge deal. Big opportunity, wonderful group of kids, and great adventures. Good luck!

If your application was good enough to get a referral for the Morehead and Robertson, that’s a really big deal. You are almost guaranteed admission, however like MaterMia said, the scholarship organizations don’t have any influence on admissions.

However, I am slightly confused. Were you referred for the Robertson at Duke? You cannot be in the running for both at UNC unless they have changed the rules from last year. If you’re hoping for admission at Duke as well, you will likely be accepted. I have two Morehead friends who I know for sure were accepted at Duke (one turned down a full ride there for the Morehead) and another’s second choice was Princeton. I’m not sure how your status as an international student may affect admissions, but you have a good chance for acceptance at any US university you apply to! Good luck!

I think this is the second poster to say they were referred from admissions for both Robertson and Morehead. And I believe that kyuminkang is right - you cannot try for both the Robertson and MC at UNC. You have to choose to pursue one or the other. You can apply to Duke and the Robertson there (you can apply for the Robertson directly) … and then UNC and try to get a MC nomination or referral. (You already have that.) But the rules are now at UNC (relatively new) that you cannot pursue both at the same time. So you may want to read the information carefully - as you may need to decide what path to pick. Based on what I know - I would recommend MC. And they are both terrific scholarships and opportunities.

Thank you everyone for your replies.
You guys are all correct, I can only apply to one of the two scholarships, and I chose the Morehead.
Personally, because I’m an international student I don’t have my hopes up too high for the scholarship, but I do have my hopes up for the EA for UNC.

I believe there are several international MC scholars. Rough estimates - out of a class of about 60 - half will be from NC, about 20 to 25 out of state, and then 5 to 10 international. Just be yourself - that’s what got you the referral!
