Anyone else applying EA to UNC while morehead-cain scholarship is pending??

anyone else? Is this a good idea or should i just wait it out? (what if UNC denies me while i am still in the running for morehead-cain! Is there communication between the two factions?)

As far as I know, I don’t think there’s much communication between the two factions since the Morehead-Cain scholarship is an independent program that’s NOT run by the university.

I’m also in the same situation as you. I’ve applied for the Morehead scholarship, and I’m also applying to UNC EA. I don’t think whether you apply EA or RD is going to effect your chances for the Morehead-Cain scholarship at all.

If your academic standing is good enough for you to have been nominated for the Morehead-Cain scholarship, then I doubt that you’ll get rejected from UNC. It would be a very unlikely scenario for you to be rejected from UNC while still in good standing for the Morehead-Cain scholarship.

But everyone says UNC OOS is the same as ivy league admission stats. Just like with ivies… who knows regarding admissions.

My guidance counselor offered to email UNC and let them know I am a morehead-cain scholarship applicant…

OOS is a different scenario altogether. I assumed you were in-state.

EA decisions come out around the same time that Morehead finalists are announced (~Jan 20). If you’re a finalist for the Morehead, then i’d bet you would be accepted to UNC, even if you’re OOS. It’s extremely unlikely that you would be selected as a Morehead-Cain finalist, but not accepted to UNC. If that scenario did occur, it would just be tough luck, I suppose. Applying RD wouldn’t change anything because you could still be selected as a Morehead-Cain scholar, but not accepted to UNC.

Either way, I think you’re fine applying EA, and the scenario you presented is highly unlikely.

^let me enlighten you with the fact that UNC does not do EA. It’s strictly called first deadline for a reason: your chances are approximately the same for both fall and the later deadline.

I was just informed that I am a semifinalist! wooo!

UNC does have EA for NC residents. My daughter applied EA to Carolina after submitting her M-C application.

How did you find out that you are a semifinalist?

I am OOS. So, we get informed about a month before the in-state kids do regarding our semifinalist/finalist status.

And the early admission option is also available for OOS.

good luck to your daughter!

^ I was responding to Polobear’s statement about EA, but on re-reading it I realize I had misinterpreted it. Sorry about that!

And congratulations, OP, on being named semifinalist! What I meant was, by what means did you receive notification (email, letter, telephone call, etc.)? We will be watching for whatever it is on December 3!

So you can apply EA (or first deadline) to UNC OOS and still apply ED to another school?

^Yes. You can apply EA anywhere, and still apply ED, as far as I know.

^ It isn’t really EA…I don’t know where Schokolade is having his/her notion from. An admissions officer, when I went to UNC, told me it is called first deadline. If Schokolade is talking about the Nov 1 deadline…this is the one I’m talking about as well.

But since I’m apply early, I would say there should some bonus for in staters lol.

^I realize that it’s actually called the ‘first deadline’, but I suppose it’s just easier to say EA instead.

I got the notification around 4:00 by email.
What it was didn’t really register until after I opened it hahah.
Happened the same way for Governor’s School :)

I was more than psyched!
