I just wanted to make an official thread for the Morehead-Cain Hopefuls this year. Anyways, this is a place for everyone to start freaking out as days come closer. (: [lol?] Or to simply talk.

As in, how many of the nominees get chosen to be semifinalists?
How many semifinalists are chosen as finalists?
How many finalists are selected as scholars?

My son’s year …about 120 finalists for interviews and about half of that number were offered. Roughly 40 in state, 10 OOS, 10 internationals. But you can count that up on the website - they post each class. A couple each year will turn it down.

I have no idea. I would think it would be somewhere around the same percentage of the class … so 80 in state, 20 OOS and 20 intentional - but that is only a guess. The class is always predominately in state students. But I think out of the final 60 or so - around 20 are not from Carolina. I don’t think they have hard and fast numbers - it depends on the class and quality of applicants from each area. But I think that gives you a good idea of the make up.

If you google related search terms, you should come across the UNC or Moehead Cain press release announcements which detail the precise breakdown. I believe one is done each year. It wil give you pretty good numbers for in-state, out of state and international.

Are y’all OOS semifinalists? I am, and am so looking forward to next Friday!

Did you guys receive a thick envelope this week? It totally psyched me out, because it turned out to be an encouraging letter from my interviewer and a really cool booklet. I definitely thought it was going to be a decision!

Yes! I had a Skype interview. It actually was awesome, and very encouraging. My interviewer was so kind, and genuinely interested in all my writing and activities.

Coming into it, I was really nervous, but the real interview felt like a really engaging conversation where I got to talk most of the time. She was really amicable, and by the end of the interview I almost felt like we were friends. I hope that helps for anyone that hasn’t had an interview yet! Don’t sweat it, but definitely get all your nerves out practicing with family or a friend.

Anxious for Friday. My counselor said all five of us that were nominated from my school are ultra competitive. I’ve got about 8 clubs, two other extra curriculars, and a 5.1 GPA at the end of the quarter to help me. Really could use this because my parents are moving out of state and my sister is at private school so it’d be really tough for my parents to afford to pay 40ish grand per year on top of what they already pay for my sister. Regardless, good luck to everyone and I hope they find room for all of us.

OMG!! I didn’t think people would actually post, but I’m in-state. I find out tomorrow. What time do they release the information online? And TexasKate, did you receive the letter before or after? I am so psyched I can’t even sleep.
