Morehead-Cain OOS process?

Hi everyone!

I’m a senior from Dallas, Texas and UNC is my dream school. I was born and raised in Charlotte, NC until middle school so Carolina is my home. My entire family went there, and I am absolutely in love.

I just found out that my school has nominated me for the Morehead, and I just wanted to get some insight on the process. What will I need to do/prepare, how does the selection work, etc? I don’t known much about this and would love to hear from someone who’s gone through the process.

Also, two random questions about scholarships…

  1. The Morehead has a component of physical vigor. I was cheerleader co-captain in 9th and 10th before I quit cheerleading (I'm manager now) to focus on musical theatre and dance. I've taken various dance classes and I've done summer theatre intensives with daily dance classes, but will this be enough to considered athletics? I'm a little nervous since I don't participate in a school-sponsored sport anymore.
  2. Are there other scholarship offers potentially made to Morehead nominees who don't end up getting the scholarship? Because of the way Texas works, I'm auto-admit to UT, so my parents aren't wanting to pay full OOS for UNC when they could pay in-state for UT, which is also a good school.

Well, the one student I knew who won it was a Wendy’s High School Heisman winner, so yeah they care about “physical vigor”.
