My daughter was just notified that she is a Morehead Cain semifinalist (OOS). She is thrilled but also nervous about the phone interview.

Is there anyone who has been through it who might care to shed a little light on what it is like...? (I am sure my daughter is not the only one who would like to know!)

My S is a former Morehead winner and UNC grad.

The best advice I can offer her is to be herself. The M-C application is quite comprehensive, as you already know, and they already have a pretty good idea as to who she is- at least on paper. The phone interview is another step in getting to know her better ie finding out what really makes her tick.

Tell her to relax and let her personality shine through on the phone. There was obviously something they liked very much about her so now is her first chance to fill in the blanks.

I’m assuming she kept a copy of her application so make sure she goes over it before the call since some questions may be directly or indirectly related to the application.

Good luck! Let me know how she fares. If she makes it to finalist status, we can “talk” via PM.

I have a Skype interview tomorrow! I’m getting nervous.
Does anyone know if they ask questions about current events? I’m planning on reviewing my application tonight and scribbling some key talking points.
So scary!

There are two paths - one for in state and one for out of state. I know there are phone interviews for OOS before the semi-finalists are announced. I’m not as familiar with the in-state process.

For OOS (from nominating schools), semifinalists were notified at the end of October. The phone interviews were during the month of November, and then at the beginning of December, finalists will be selected.
