Hi, I started a thread a while back but I’m doing an updated one because semi-finalists come out tomorrow… What are my chances of getting Morehead Cain at UNC-CH?
Out of State- Florida
SAT: 1390, 1450 superscored
ACT: 33, 34 superscored (which UNC does but not necessarily M-C)
GPA: 3.94UW, 5.10W
IB Program in addition to 7 AP test scores upon graduation
Morehead Cain stresses physical vigor and community service, so:
-I volunteered as an assistant coach for a Rock Steady Boxing for Parkinson’s Disease. This was a huge part of my high school experience and I have written quite a bit about it
-I volunteered as an assistant dance teacher for third and fourth grade girls for four years
-I am an officer of Pay It Forward, a community service club at my high school that raises money for less fortunate families in my community and to fund the education of children in Sierra Leone
-I have danced for 13 years, my dance teacher was one of my references and she will be able to give good insight into my character if I make it that far. Also, I wrote an essay about teamwork based on an experience on the dance team at school.
-I wrote about how I love ballet but have expanded into different styles throughout the years.
-I have worked at a yoga studio since it opened in January
-I worked for the CEO of a physical therapy company (biggest company in the US)
-I am also very artistic and have won several competitions
-I write really well and I think I will interview very well, I am more concerned that I have not done enough. The profiles of the kids who have gotten it before make me feel so scared because they are so incredible. Also, a senior from last year’s class got the scholarship, not sure if that affects my chances for the better or worse.
The Morehead-Cain Scholarship is one of the most prestigious scholarships one can receive from a public university. You are competing with other top students from across the world and North Carolina. It’s really hard to tell if you can win the award since your scores are not perfect.
@katespeare All semifinalist decisions (with the exception of Canadian and North Carolinian students I believe) were released last Friday, November 17th. I got mine at around 4:00 my time.
@JACCVT Depends on whether you were in state or out of state. Out of state can expect Finalist notifications this Friday since they did their video interviews a few weeks ago. However, if you were in state and did a physical regional interview, you will have to wait about another week to find out.
Anybody received nomination through Admissions Referral Program? Could you please respond with your stats? Today we are supposed to receive email notifications.
