Hi , I’m a North Carolina resident and it’s my dream to go to unc chapel hill and receive the Morehead Cain scholarship. Does anyone have advice or tips I could use to get this scholarship?
Thanks !
First of all, as a resident NC student can you self-nominate or does your school have to select you? If the school selects you then that’s where you need to start. Find out their process, etc…
Even if you are not nominated by your high school, the UNC admissions office can forward your application to the MC committee, which is separate from UNC. But that’s reserved for super compelling applicants - the top percentages.
My daughter is an out-of-state MC Scholar and I think that her strengths, along with all the other accepted students, were (not ranked in order): academic performance and a challenging curriculum; excellent communication skills and social presence; strong leadership of something; and passion, passion and more passion for learning and exploring.
Its very competitive as you know. My daughter turned down admission to Princeton, Duke, Georgetown, UVA and Berkeley for UNC-MC, so give it your best effort.
So if you are out of state and your high school does not nominate, is it better to try and get the school eligible or apply through EA and have them forward it? Also, do you guys know if MC is as competitive as other large scholarships like the Jefferson Scholarship at UVA? @njfisherman @breakfeastclub1234567890
