2016 Fall Applicants who are applying for Morrill Scholarship at Ohio State University.
D applied, and OSU is one of her top choices. Fingers crossed for her and good luck to all!
Glad to hear that. I am applying as well.
Has anyone else applied for the Morrill

Any idea when decisions start going out?
@itsgettingreal17 - Admission decisions should start going out by Friday before Thanksgiving weekend so it would be 11/18/2016 this year.
@dreamed Does it matter how early you applied? If I applied EA and apply just before the deadline, am I more likely to get a later decision? Or is it more like higher stat people hear first?
@Classof2015 - I believe it is based on how soon all of your admission materials are submitted and the stats presented. Good Luck!
I applied for Morrill and I’m pretty confident about it!! Good luck to everyone!!
Does anyone know when Morrill Scholarships are distributed? Are they distributed with acceptance letters or separately? If you are accepted in early action, when do you find out if you have received the scholarship? What is the difference between students accepted before Thanksgiving and student accepted in December?
Thanks!
My son applied to OSU early action as an OOS applicant in September 2015 and he received his acceptance letter on November 20. The notification of Morrill Prominence occurred on January 4, 2016 by email. The email stated that he was also being considered for Distinction. The notification that he had received Distinction occurred by phone on March 21. It was sometime after that before we received anything the written notification.
Good luck to everyone.
@OSU21M -
Does anyone know when Morrill Scholarships are distributed?
A: Final decisions for Morrill come out sometime around March and April. The initial selection begins in Jan.
Are they distributed with acceptance letters or separately?
A: Acceptance to the university comes first. Then you get accepted into a certain program say if you applied for College of Engineering, you get accepted into tOSU first and a letter saying – you have been accepted into tOSU. Then you get accepted into COE followed by a letter saying – You have been accepted into COE. Then by March / April you will hear back on Scholarships & Morrill
If you are accepted in early action, when do you find out if you have received the scholarship?
A: Early action really doesn’t have a bearing of whether you receive a certain scholarship. Early action ensures that you have met the primary criterais and are now in the mix of candidates for scholarship consideration. Sure EA has possible benefit of moving things swiftly in your favor.
What is the difference between students accepted before Thanksgiving and student accepted in December?
A: Not much other than students accepted before Thanksgiving, can pay their admittance fee (if tOSU is their 1st pick) and kick off the dorms process or apply for any special scholarships. Basically you are ahead in the line from process perspective. Those who are accepted in December are not at a horrible disadvantage, they just have to wait longer to hear back on apps decision and wait longer before paying acceptance fee and dorm process.
I am not saying that EA is useless, it is very much a good things for those who want to get their apps submitted sooner and want decisions back sooner.
@dreamed I don’t know about the Morrill scholarship but Early Action is imperative for most of the other merit scholarships. Last year National Buckeye ran out of money before all qualified early action candidates could get it. In engineering they told us that you would not even be considered if you didn’t apply early action.
@bhs1978 -
Accurate Early Action shows interest in the university and gets your application going sooner.
In reference to my comment about “Early action really doesn’t have a bearing of whether you receive a certain scholarship.” - Just because someone applies Early Action doesn’t mean they will receive a certain scholarship. Early action has benefits in terms of applications, admission decisions, scholarship reviews and scholarship decisions.
My son applied to OSU and the Morrill scholarship on 10/16/16. He got accepted to OSU on 11/20/16, but no word on Honors or scholarships. Some days I feel like he has a good chance at getting one of the Morrill scholarships, other days I wonder if what we think is diversity leadership is what OSU is looking for. I hope he at least gets the Maximus scholarship that he qualifies for.
@Mombean Congratulations to your son on his acceptance! You probably won’t hear about Morrill (or any other scholarships) until just after New Year’s - my daughter received Morrill last year and didn’t get her notice until then. Of course, Morrill supersedes any others since it is full tuition/full COA. She also is part of Honors & Scholars and got that notification in mid-January (I think).
Will we receive an email letting us know if we didn’t get the scholarship?
@mom1girl Thanks! The wait will make the holiday season go slower.
I received this scholarship last year and can answer any questions
As a Morrill scholarship winner, do you have any obligations during the school year? If so, what and how much time does this take up? Thanks!
