Morrill Scholarship - Class of 2017 (2013 HS Seniors)

Ahh I can breathe again! I emailed and they said they received it. Good luck to everyone :)

Does anyone know what goes on at the interviews for full ride?

I’d ask to be chanced for this things (even if I have to send you my essay, by god), but that just facilitates anxiety.

Instead I’ll just sit here and pine quietly for a good scholarship.

Thanks! I’m freaking out! Oh and does everyone who is accepted get a scholarship or just the best of them?

The morril scholarship is selective. So…no.

I’m pretty sure if you get accepted it means you got a scholarship… Plus according to last year’s thread around 25% of people get it? That’s pretty big… Here’s an excerpt from the official form they emailed me:

“The Morrill Scholars Program (MSP) is one of Ohio State’s premier scholarship opportunities offered through the Office of Diversity and Inclusion that seeks to reward leadership and academic excellence through diversity. In addition to scholarship funding, this program provides cultural enrichment, service opportunities, and personal and professional development… MSP scholarships are awarded on a competitive basis to students admitted to the Columbus campus for the autumn semester following high school graduation.”

25% < 100%, no?

You’re wrong go back to preschool math

I’m pretty sure you guys are answering two different questions. No need for insults. Candice was asking that if you got accepted to the Morrill Scholars Program, do you get the scholarship. But vaguely, it may seem as if she’s asking about the scholarship regarding acceptance to OSU. The process works backwards, if you receive the scholarship, you are admited to the MS program.

Philovitist was answering the question whether admitted students into OSU get the scholarship while Imperio was answering Candice’s question.

Just trying to clear up the confusion. Remember, this is supposed to be a helpful thread for MS applicants.

Also, College Confidential is not a reliable source for selection statistics being that the majority of CC members are high achieving students (implying that they are more likely to get in and post their results on CC).

I mean I guess it’s not exactly reliable since nothing can be confirmed, but someone did say last year that OSU said that around 450/2000 people that apply get the scholarship! Gives me some hope :)

Hopefully we find out soon, I already got a pretty good OOS scholarship but fingers crossed for full!

I got my email congratulating me on being accepted to the scholars program!!! Does that mean I get a scholarship?

Almost definitely.

No, that’s the regular Scholars program! This is the Morrill Scholars, it’s separate from the other one. The office told me we won’t hear back until late March-April ish

Oh, sorry.

But that does make your odds look pretty good, regardless.

Not really. Scholars is easier to get into than honors… It has nothing to do with the MSP which is handled by the office of diversity and inclusion

Easier than Honors? >.<

I’ve been duped. Whatevs. Sorry again.

Hmm I looked up both programs and they have the same requirements

The stats of people accepted into Honors are a little bit higher than the stats of those accepted into Scholars, indicating it’s a slightly more prestigious program. However, like imperio said, I don’t think whether you get accepted into one of the two affects your chances at getting the Morrill Scholarship.

Does anyone know how they define “minority” for this scholarship?
Like does being Asian count as “diverse”?

Afrojack, I have heard that the “Minority” status is more of a preference rather than a definite requirement. There was a Caucasian girl who received the morrill scholarship based on her diversity-promoting achievements. As for Asians, I know of 3 Asians who have received the Morrill Scholarship.
