Anybody else applied?

MY DD applied.

My S also applied.

I applied as well, but I have a question concerning the status of applications. I actually finished my app on the last minute and I faxed the necessary documents the same day, but my app status still says they are not received. I got the fax number by using google since the fax number wasn't directly listed on the Morill Scholars site and faxed it at the number I found.

Is there still a delay in processing my academic requirements or did I send my stuff at the wrong fax number and jeopardize my chances for this scholarship?

Mario, did your application materials show up as received yet? I know for my ds that the transcripts/ test scores/ guidance form took a while (weeks) to show up as recieved, but they finally are showing as in. (Must have been sometime right around Christmas.) The parts that he did online showed up immediately as "in".

Also, I called and spoke with someone at the office of Minority affairs about this scholarship while he was filling out the application. There are different scholarships under the Morrill heading. Some are need based and some are strictly merit based.

All my stuff has been received since a few weeks ago, so no worries here! :D

I just finished applying for that.

i just checked my app today, and under the 'selection process status' it changed to 'assigned'.
i'm assuming that just means they've started looking at my app?

Yesterday my s's status said "finalizing review" and today it says "reviewed". I guess that means that they're done looking at his app. now? But, we still won't know anything until late March?

OSU told me I could know as early as mid to late February on the scholarship.

That could be wrong though...so I am not certain at all.

Has anyone heard about the Morrill Scholars Program? When are the interviews, if any? When are the award letters or emails being distributed? This seems rather late since the applications were due December 1.

My mom works in one of OSU's diversity service offices, and she said that all reviews on the Morrill Scholars Program are done. Interviews were conducted a couple of weeks ago for the Distinction level (in-state tuition, room and board, book allowance, etc) and applicants who qualified were invited for that. One of my friends did the interview two weeks ago. Then for the Excellence level (in-state tuition), notification letters should be received by the end of March/beginning of April. I don't think any interviews are held for the Excellence level, though.

Hope I helped! :)

Yes, that does help. However, at the same time, it causes concern. We were hoping to be considered for the Prestige or Distinction level. Hopefully, we will find out something soon.

There is no prestige level, this year. They only have two levels this year. It is explained on the website:
Morrill Scholars Program Information, Office of Minority Affairs

The emails are out-- at least ours is.

I am surprised OMA did not notify ALL applicants at the same time, even if interviews were being held for the Distinction level. I am disappointed if this is how they handled the notification. There are at least 2000 waiting to hear and they should ALL hear at the same time since they ALL were required to apply by December 1.

Ohiomomma did your son/daughter received an award? If so which one and what are their stats, including financial need?

HoustonMOM51... I agree with you completely. Furthermore, I was also shocked to see that e-mail addresses of those who did not receive the scholarship were also pasted in the "To" heading there for everyone to see. Here again, I think the notification process was poorly handled.

Even with the following stats, my daughter still did not qualify for the scholarship;

GPA:
4.60 (Weighted-7th Semester)
3.98 (Unweighted)

Class Ranking:

9th / 895 students - Top 1%

ACT/SAT:

ACT > 30 SAT > 1280

Other:

> Direct Admitted to BSPS - Pharmaceutical Sciences Program
> Admitted to OSU Honors Program

My daughter had high hopes of attending OSU... however, we'll now have to re-group and start making arrangements for her to attend another university in-state (IN).

Makes you wonder if the final decision was based not on student's merit (as they say...) ... but more had to do with the income level of the parents ???

Ugh, Rocky River email addresseses of those not awarded included for all to see (what happened to blind copying). I must say this method of notification is not professional and what I expect from OSU. My impressions are changing.....
When did your daughter receive the "no"? My daughter has not heard, nor is it posted on her application page. We, too are out of state and need to make some decisions here.........
I have to agree with you in that I am becoming quite leary of the merit based awards which "claim" no financial need requirement...seems most are granted to need based students which is fine, I just wish university officials would be honest and make these awards need based and cut the "merit" language.
Anxious Mom in Texas!

HoustonMOM51... Here's the exact time when we received the e-mail from the Program Manager, MSP;

I must agree with you again... the "merit" language should be taken out! Perhaps it should be named to Morrill "Diversity" Program Scholarship... and not Morrill "Scholars" Program. With my daughter's academic credentials and OSU admissions status, we were confident (based on merit) that she would be in the running to be awarded the scholarship... so you can imagine how devastating/disappointing to have received the "I regret to inform you..." letter.

I hope and pray that your daughter will receive the "good news" soon.
