most classes offered at the exact same time?

im trying to build my schedule as a jr trans and i keep running into classes that i want/need to take but are offered at the exact same time.

right now i have 2 classes and each class i want to add totally conflicts with one of the two. most classes i check are offered between 12:00pm and 4:00pm om MW. a few classes are offered on TTH and then it's at like 8am :(

anyways, this is what i have so far:

PAM 2030 Fall 2010 02:55PM - 04:10PM MW
PAM 2300 Fall 2010 12:20PM - 01:10PM MWF
PAM 3350 Fall 2010 11:40AM - 12:55PM TR

anyone have any recommendations? i can take either PAM2300 or PAM2000. plus im trying to minor in inequality studies but most of those classes conflict with the ones above.

should i call advising? are they helpful? i emailed thomas evans (CHE listed as the PAM adviser) but he never wrote me back....

im panicked that i wont graduate in time...

very frustrating!!

Have you been assigned to a mentor for the orientation week? If you have, email the person to see if (s)he knows anyone with PAM background. I’m sure (s)he will help you.

Don’t be panic! just make sure you ask a lot, and hopefully someone with PAM background in this forum can help you out. Email other advisor as well. if one doesn’t reply you, others will!

okay update: how does this schedule look?

[Schedulizer: Fall '10](http://www.schedulizer.com/KdgdGJ)

PAM 2300 Fall 2010 12:20PM - 01:10PM MWF
PAM 2030 Fall 2010 02:55PM - 04:10PM MW

PAM 3350 Fall 2010 11:40AM - 12:55PM TR
EDU 2710 Fall 2010 01:25PM - 02:40PM TR
EDU 2710 Fall 2010 03:35PM - 04:25PM R

also, im minoring in inequality studies. i need 4 general cornell electives to graduate with PAM. can i fulfill those 4 general electives with courses from my minor?

like EDU 2710 is an elective for my minor but i am also hoping to use it for general elective credits

(PAM3370 is required for my minor but i am hoping to use it to fulfill for one of my major’s electives later)

is this allowed?

14 credits is simply too low for a junior, especially a transfer worried about graduating on time.

ok so go for one more class? im just nervous about overwhelming myself first semester

That’s what I was worried about freshman year, and I only took 4 classes first semester. I really regret that now, since I have to take 6 classes a semester to make up for it. Start with 5, and drop one if you really really need to

^I agree with hoonose. Although maybe it’s better to say that people usually take 16-18 credits per semester than saying you should take 5 classes (5 classes can mean 20 credits!).

Don’t most majors only need 120 credits, or 15/semester average? Subtract out AP credits and it could even be less.

Depending on major and what classes that are available. Some classes are only offered in the fall, and others are only in the spring. Also, people would want some relaxing time during their senior years when they need to apply for jobs or grad school. So, it really depends on the circumstances one has.

Additionally, later you’ll have other obligations, like ECs, research, job, etc. So if you get the classes out of the way early you’ll be in better shape later.

so the general consensus is i should take 1 more class? i only need to take 15 credits a semester to graduate (i need 120 credits, 60 transferred in from my community college). and so at this rate i will just need to step it up next semester (which i plan to do). my schedule is just set like this so i don’t overwhelm myself during the transition.

i won’t have a job (my scholarship covers all my costs that cornell doesnt) and the only other EC i will have for sure is studying for the LSAT

my scholarship (jack kent cooke) recommends not to take more than 12 hours as a transfer student during your first semester.

oh, and does anyone know if i can use minor classes to fulfill other parts of my major, like general college electives or major-specific classes?

^hyperlite have you taken a look at this?

http://www.human.cornell.edu/che/Academics/Undergraduate/Student_Services/Registrar/Degree_Progress/upload/PAM_09-10.pdf

@usafa2011dad: yep  i used that as a basis to build my schedule. i built an excel spreadsheet with all the different requirements:

well I am pretty sure you can do what you want for the electives. I know my D is going to minor in exercise science and she is using those classes as her electives and her advisor said that is perfectly fine.
