I'm just curious: what are the most prestigious conservative colleges in the US, and how do they compare-- say in terms of their peer assessment ratings-- to the most prestigious liberal colleges? Why do you think that is? I'd like to hear from both sides.

Washington & Lee is probably the highest ranked notoriously conservative college in the US. Notre Dame is the highest ranked conservative university. Grove City College and Wheaton College in Illinois are very conservative as well. And of course, BJU.

I doubt that any political bias really factors into the rankings. Colleges are a rule are usually quite liberal; probably 75-80% of all colleges would consider themselves so, so it makes sense that conservative colleges would APPEAR to be ranked lower simply because there are so few of them.

Liberal: Berkeley

Conservative: BYU

Liberal: Stanford, Berkeley, Yale, Brown, Reed

Conservative: BYU, BJU, Claremont McKenna, Grove City, Notre Dame

Generally, you'll find more liberal schools on the coasts, and more conservative schools in the southeast.

BYU is in a seperate category, it conservative in a much different sense than most people think, where conservative mans no Starbucks for instance.

For liberal, I'd say Oberlin in the LAC arena (GO FLYING HORSECOWS!!!)

Also Hillsdale is pretty conservative, on par with Grove City and Wheaton.

Liberal= Oberlin
Conservative= Davidson C.

Liberal= Lewis and Clark
Conservative= BJU

Berkeley is certainly not the most liberal university. The Free Speech Movement days are now part of the university's history, but not a trend.

"the most prestigious liberal college"

oh sorry, I only read the title and didn't notice the word "prestigious"

Liberal: Reed, Smith, Vassar, Wesleyan, Brown

Wake Forest U. is somewhat conservative :(

I'd say umich is pretty liberal

Macalester is very liberal.

I'd say that Texas A&M is one of the most conservative colleges in the country.

Most Prestigious liberal: UC Berk, Brown, Stanford

Most Prestigious conservative: W&L, Notre Dame, Duke, Wake Forest

Duke's not conservative lol, at least not anywhere near as close as W&L. I think its not as liberal as others, but the majority of the students are liberals.

In fact, a conservative student group there called out the administration for being too liberal a few years back

Duke may not be Republican, but it has the conservative environment. There is politically conservative and culturally conservative. I.E. Boston College probably is heavily Democrat. However, it is culturally extremely conservative. Most colleges are radically cultural conservative.

Culturally conservative? maybe. That usually translates into politically conservative for most non-religiously affiliated colleges, no? I guess it is in a red state, unlike almost all other comparable colleges.

Duke is like Dartmouth-more moderate but with a conservative alumni base.
