Most likely awards

If you got voted by your fellow seniors for one of the most likely awards, such as most likely to succeed, etc, is it worth it to put it as an honor/award for your college application?

No, that's just a popularity contest. They only want to know about academic awards.

bump............

i personally wouldn't, that just makes you look desperate and it's only a popularity contest

I agree with blackeyedsusan. It's a popularity contest, worth nothing to anyone but you. (Sorry to be so harsh. It's a fun thing to get, but worthless in the college world)

i would suggest you not put that down as an award.

Well, one may just say Student Body president is just a popularity contest. Or perhaps Valedictorians based on student voting...

I'm going to sound like a broken record and repeat what's just been said here. Don't put it. It means nothing. If it's unique and really relates to what you're doing and it can truly say something about you, you could touch on it in your essay (for example, I was voted "class metalsmith" and I'm bringing it up very briefly to illustrate how large of a role my art plays in my life). But if it's something general like the example you gave, just leave it out entirely.

I honestly don't see why not, if you have the room. Really, people are much more critical of this sort of thing than adcoms will be. If you have the space, why not just go ahead and put it, given that it's something academic? For example, if you were voted "most likely to succeed," it shows how your peers view you. If it's "most likely to be late to graduation," well... then probably not.

Class metalsmith? What the?

I wouldn't, because it's not an academic award...and it really is a popularity contest.

gekko,

valedictorian isn't voted on by the student body. It's earned. each school does it differently, but it's earned by gpa's. Student body pres and all other club pres are also potentially popularity contests too. "most likely" awards are strickly popularity awards though. Can't argue that one.

^Yeah...I've never seen a school that voted on valedictorian.

Well I was voted Most Likely to Succeed and Most Intelligent and I can't say I'm exactly the most popular girl at school. I know some people who would beg to differ on my behalf but...I'm not considered one of those girls who seem to think they rule the school. I am also Student Body VP which I earned out of my own merit and effort and not by popularity...in fact, I ran against the "most popular" guy at school for that position..and beat him.

Anyway, bottom line: I'm putting it on my application because both titles are usually held in high respect at my school and not as a "joke" as something like "Class Metalsmith" would be. Plus, I think it does say something about me..
Good luck.

spiffystars,

OK. You can do whatever you wish. Good luck :)

but don't you guys think this would be more impressive than the honor of being on National Society of High School scholars or Who's Who among High school students or the like?

I would only think about putting it if I had nohting else to put down.

haha, this thread is only funny because i really did receive the "metalworker of the year" award.

killer.
