Class Favorite?

Is it really pretentious to put that you're class favorite on your list of awards? Or do colleges care about stuff like this?

what is class favorite

They hand out ballots to everyone in the class and everyone votes on their favorite person. Haha

i would. that give the admission officers a good laugh.

Haha, I was just nominated for Homecoming Queen (hopefully I'll win!) and I'm putting that. :) I mean, the whole school has to nominate you--you have to be popular and a leader to have people notice you enough to vote for you! I think it's an accomplishment, as is yours. You should explain what it is, though, otherwise it sounds like you're just saying, "The teacher liked me best!" without any backup.

are u serious...lol..

i definitely agree with semiserious. your whole class elects you and its a big honor. certainly worth putting on the app

so if i get voted "Best Hair" or "Best smile" out of my senior class that will count for something?? I seriously doubt it/ LOL
always thought awards were something serious like National merit and honor roll, student body president etc...

All of these things are popularity contests, and IMO any mention of them on apps would perhaps obscure your real achievements.

I was voted most likely to achieve, that's not really a popularity thing persay, so would that be a good thing to put. (by the way, I have no clue if "persay" is even a word, it just sounded right to say.)

"per se" means "strictly speaking". Maybe these honors are important, but I think colleges are looking for things like achievement in sports or music, leadership roles in ECs or student government, academic competitions, etc.

I was voted "most likely to be late for my own funeral" because I was late so many times. At least I was great at something based on the opinion of my colleagues. I shall put this on my app because I hear Harvard is looking for best individuals in their respective fields

Hahaha... excellent. Harvard will love it.

Ehhh.... I would shy away from any sort of "popularity" award. I was also nominated for homecoming queen, and asked my GC if it would be appropriate to include in my resume, and he forbade me!

Awards ARE serious, so don't water them down with something more shallow.

I would definitely put it--not only will it stand out against thousands of NHS and volunteer work, but it tells the admissions office that you are sociable and will probably adapt will to college if you're good at making friends. Anything that helps you stand out is a plus (Because I thought it was funny and unique, I put that I won a watermelon-seed-spitting contest on a few of my applications, but I forget which ones, so I couldn't tell you if it helped or not).

Hey, I got Subway Star-Spotter Award and $15 cash prize for offering to toast someone's sandwich. Maybe I should put that on my college app.

For the HC queens here (lol, NOT me) I would say don't put it on the app, but bring it up during a casual interview or something. I told my interviewer that I won funniest and best laugh in the band and he seemed to be interested by that.

Any award you can recieve, with the exception of valediction, is to some degree a popularity contest. The bottom line for almost all awards is: WHO DID THEY LIKE BEST? Whose essay did they like best? Whose answers did they like best? Whose personality did they like best? It's nearly all subjective to some extent, and I don't think it's shallow to add others.

Also, there are flaws in the analogy of putting being voted Best Hair--that represents only a physical trait; homecoming/prom queen shows personality traits. In order to be homecoming queen, you are selected by the entire school as the person who "best embodies the qualities set forth in the school honor code: kindess, respect, honesty, and generousity" (at least that's how my school does it). Just because you're choosen for it by your peers doesn't mean it doesn't say something about you as a person.
