Also I’ve been hearing students use Facebook for medical classes. How and why? I want to know what people use most not just for school but for social life as well. Thanks!
Also how do most people host events? like say, okay guys wanna meet up here (to a small group of friends or large)?
Back in my day, we’d use this contraption called MySpace.
I don’t know anything about using Facebook for medical classes, but Facebook is definitely used for a lot of things in college. It can be used to schedule events, ask questions to other people at your college, try to find subletters for your off-campus apartments, talk to groups in a group chat, keep up-to-date with people and events happening around campus, etc.
A couple apps I never used until college:
Groupme: Basically an app for group chats. I have a group chat for basically every group I’m involved with on campus so I can keep in touch with all of them throughout the semester, we can easily plan events, etc.
Venmo: An app that allows you to easily pay someone. You put in your credit card info and if you owe someone money you can just venmo it straight to them through the app (if they’re using it too). I used it to pay for everything from a formal to a bucket of fries.
@Ranza123 hit the nail on the head, those 3 are pretty much all you need.
The optional kit would include Snapchat, Twitter, and Instagram, in that order. I don’t use any myself but have been asked if I had a snapchat, and heard other people socializing on the other two.
I use Facebook, Groupme, Venmo, Snapchat, and Twitter. Rarely used Twitter, but the rest were all used at least once a week
I have a LinkedIn account, but I don’t know how to use it productively. A lot of clubs post their events on Facebook, but their profiles are public enough that I can see them without an account. This one isn’t popular as far as I know, but I’ve found some interesting local events on Meetup.org.
I don’t consider Linkedin social, more for jobs/internships. Certainly a must have though.
When should an incoming freshman make a LinkedIn?
If you’re thinking of making a LinkedIn account eventually, there’s no harm in just making one now. It’s not hard, and you can keep it updated whenever you have time. There’s no “right time” when you should do it.
I made my LinkedIn the summer before my freshman year. It’s extremely useful.
From most often to least often:
Twitter>Instagram>Facebook>Snapchat>Groupme>Quad
Yik Yak
Facebook, Groupme, Snapchat, YikYak, Twitter, Kik. For professional interactions, LinkedIn
I use Tumblr and Facebook, and I have a LinkedIn account, but I haven’t used it outside of setting up my online resume. I also have an Instagram, but I’m not social on it.
