<p>I was just wondering what the most valuable advice you could give for getting into Dartmouth (or any Ivy) is. I am currently a freshman in HS and this is a very general question. Thanks! :)</p>
<p>Why don’t you read what Dartmouth says on its website? A prime source is better than strangers’ (mostly unknowing HS students) guesses.</p>
<ol>
<li><p>Take the most rigorous coursework available to you in HS.</p></li>
<li><p>Pursue those extracurricular activities for which you are most passionate, Depth not breadth is important, as are leadership positions. Show consistency in these activities.</p></li>
<li><p>Do really well in your coursework (nearly 50% of entering classes at Dartmouth were Valedictorians/Salutatorians).</p></li>
<li><p>Ensure your SAT scores are above the median (e.g. M 730, CR 725, W 730). For H,P,Y and Columbia the median for each test is 750. This will require preparation and lots of practice. </p></li>
<li><p>Develop meaningful relationships with your teachers so that they will be able to write about you with real knowledge and understanding when it is reference letter time.</p></li>
<li><p>Get to know the schools so that you can shape your application to appeal to each school’s unique attributes. </p></li>
<li><p>Have fun and enjoy your HS school experience.</p></li>

<p>Excellent advice, BalletGirl. (Except that some people really do not need to devote time to practicing the SATs. That particular thing depend on the individual.

<p>My one piece of advice is to be unique. A long list of presidencies is not as impressive as a short list of dedicated activities in which you have done a lot to improve and build the club/organization up.</p>
