Ok. So I do not want to sound ignorant but I just need some advice! I really enjoy Mount Holyoke and think that it would be a great place to go to college, putting aside the fact that it is a difficult school to get into; will it be socially awkward there for me? I am a normal teenage girl who is not a lesbian, many of my friends who I have told that I would like to go to Mount Holyoke all ask arent there a lot of lesbians there, wont you feel uncomfortable? I quickly say know because it did not bother me the least bit but thinking about it more and more made me post here. Is it easy to make friends at MHC? Is there any pressure to be a lesbian? I keep hearing college is what you make of it which I believe but I just want to make sure that I will not be fighting a losing battle at Mount Holyoke. I need your advice. Thanks in advance, and please no one take offence to this I am just some teenager who is trying to figure this college thing out.

You should read the threads for Mt. Holyoke: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/forumdisplay.php?f=71 and for the other women colleges like Smith. This question comes up a lot.

I have 2 D's at 2 different women colleges and they are both straight and are both very comfortable at their schools. You will not have any problems socially or otherwise at any of the women colleges.

You should also post this on the Mt. Holyoke forum.

Accordingly to a campuswide survey, slightly under 11% of students at Smith are lesbians, and I expect the same is true at Mt. Holyoke. If this makes you uncomfortable, you should think twice.

It is well less than half the percentage of gay males at Yale.
