Move-in Day

A little background. I'll be attending an out-of-state school so we cant even afford to go to the 2 day summer orientation (round trip flights x3, etc) but there will be a 1 day orientation before the 2 day move-in day.

Now, were planning to go/fly the night of the 1st move in day and arrive and move the 2nd move-in day. so my parents will just have to pay for 1 night (night of 2nd move in day) of hotel or something. Then go to the orientation after 2nd move-in day...

Is it good to move the 2nd move in day?
I'm not worried much about who will get the better bed/desk because if I got the better bed/desk, my roommate will have some bad impressions but if my roommate got the better because he is earlier then no hard feelings.

I'm worried that most students will be there already it they will be all looking at us (?) and my roommate will somewhat feel home already or made some friends or at least talk to them already. So it won't be that "new" any more.

Any other 1st vs 2nd move in day?

I really don’t think this will be an issue. If there are two move-in days, plenty of students will probably move in the second day. And knowing people for one day less is not going to affect your ability to be friends with them for the rest of the semester!

Don’t worry about it. Universities have multiple move in days because many people need that second day so you’re highly unlikely to be the only one moving in.
Also, as kat121 said, one day won’t make a difference with making friends. I was the last one to move into my suite my freshman year but I still easily made friends with most my suite mates and most of those on my floor as well as many people in my classes and clubs once those started up! There’s tons of chances to make friends in college besides move in day, so don’t worry about it too much! Good luck!

You’re going to be at this school for four years. You’ll live in this dorm for a year. One day is not going to make any difference.
