How were your move-in experiences, esp freshman?

S is an incoming Freshman @ Carroll Hall. We pulled up and the fellow vermin came running. They gathered up all his stuff and moved it up to 3rd floor in a matter of minutes. Granted Carroll is in "farquad" so there wasn't much congestion, but what a great system. It couldn't have gone any smoother.

Having the vehicles in a holding lot and monitoring them in and out appeared to be a great system. Heard positive remarks from other freshman families.

Move in was extremely simple and smooth. The fresh-o staff was very friendly and welcoming. My son moved into Knott Hall. The only issue we had was that we went in the wrong entrance and there was a long line of cars. We did not research that well enough. If we had gone in the way they told us to go we would have not have had to wait in line for about 45 minutes.

Moved my son into Carroll Hall as well and found the curbside service great! With 2-3 guys carrying his things up it moved very quickly and not much congestion considering the small parking area.

Move-in went really smoothly, besides the borderline unbearable humidity. Man, it was hot! But seriously, the freshman orientation people were so amazing in helping everyone and the RAs too sorting out rooms.

Frosh-O Weekend was wonderful!!

We moved our son into Keough Hall - the rooms are huge!! The dorm was so clean! He was so excited (as were we) to be living there. The freshmen staff was amazing - they unloaded the car so quickly and they were all so efficient. We spent a large part of the weekend buying shelving units and a futon and other items for his room. Notre Dame Al - You were right. I believe you posted earlier this summer about buying a piece of carpet before you moved in - that was such good advice that unfortunately, we didn't take but we learned our lesson. As soon as my son received his room key, my husband ran out to the store to buy a 9 by 12 piece of carpet. Once that was rolled out onto the floor, the staff helped us loft the furniture and things went very smoothly from there. Father Pete McCormick and the Keough RAs are wonderful - it is very comforting to know that I am leaving my son in such good hands.

Notre Dame was everything that everyone had said it would be and more. They do a great job - the campus was impressive and there really is a family atmosphere that exists throughout the school. I couldn't stop smiling and it was humorous - many of the students, who were thrilled to be there, were also anxious about this new experience and at times, it was expressed on their faces. The parents, on the other hand, were beaming "non-stop" - smiling from ear to ear because they were so proud that their child was attending ND. I really felt a sense of pride, a sense of humbleness, a sense of security and a sense of peace - Thank you, Notre Dame, for making us feel that our son made the right decision in choosing to attend your university!

Just another note - My older son is a sophomore at a state university. What a difference! Last year, on the first night on campus, he stated that many, many freshmen got drunk because the opportunity to use alcohol was prominently
displayed everywhere - especially in the fraternities who offered drinks to everyone. In fact, drinking was the activity of choice that weekend because that is all the students were focused on with their new -found freedom.
This weekend, at Notre Dame, alcohol did not seem to be included in any of the activities (If it was in use, I was unaware of it and so was my son). Now I am not saying that ND students don't drink - it is just that it didn't appear to be the priority over the weekend. The students were more interested in meeting people and making friends and becoming acclimated to their new surroundings - They did not seem to care that they were not able to drink. This did not seem to be their focus at that moment - giving me just one more reason to smile about ND...! (Now I don't want this to turn into a debate about the presence of drinking at ND - I was just commenting on the differences between the "first" weekend activities at the two schools).

My son is a junior this year, and has been at Keough from day 1 at ND. Love everything about it, location, air conditioned, support staff, etc. Congrats on becoming part of the ND family. My wife and I have only one "dream" left, that our son that is a junior in high school starts his freshman year at ND in two years!

What wonderful experience the weekend was!! It was my first visit to ND although my husband and son had been there before ( and it was well worth the 11 hour drive lol). The Staff at KNOTT HALL was awesome!! Even with the downpour the second we opened that tailgate to unload...evenything was delivered quickly and effeciently. The guys were so friendly, personable and respectful. My son's RA 4B ;) couldn't be a nicer guy as well as all the other upper classmen on the floor. They jumped right in to making the boys feel welcome. Even the freshmen caught on and started visiting each other rooms by days end! ND has proven to be exactly what it's mission statement emphasizes. The feeling of 'family' is no joke....it is a family and I am so proud of my son for being accepted into such a wonderful one !!
