Emptied DD’s storage locker ok, got soaked on the 2 trips to one of her suitemate’s. Literally not an empty bit of floor space in the apartment. Can’t imagine how they’ll get it fixed before the other 2 show up! And they are both doing Arrival Survival in the morning. Hope it doesn’t rain!

So we did the move-in on Thursday for Freshman Fest. It was not very well organized at Russell, everyone was standing around waiting to find out what to do, then shortly after 5 someone noticed that the doors were unlocked so we started unloading. No help moving in (I guess I should not have expected it on Thursday) so we had to bring everything up 2 flights by ourselves but still had everything in the room by 6. My son’s roomate lives in Wilmington so came over with his parents around 6pm and loaded the refrigerator and some storage stuff. The two of them decided to unbunk the beds (his roomate and his father did it) and rearrange the dressers and desks (which my son said others used as a model when they moved in on Saturday).

In retrospect, we actually did have enough time in the two hours on Thursday, but we had the Hilton paid for. We went to Costco on Friday and bought 5 cases of Snapple and Vitamin Water, and also to BB&B for a couple of other things. We then showed up at the dorm on Saturday morning and took advantage of the Arrival Survival people to carry the cases of drinks up the two flights (should have kept the microwave in the car until then!).

The room next to my son’s was a triple, it looked terribly crowded. And one of the beds was lofted and was very close to the ceiling (which is angled on the third floor).

BTW, someone made a really stupid decision and ordered desks with solid sides for Russell, even though they are new. Don’t they realize that kids need someplace to wrap the cable lock around to secure their laptops, the only place is the bed. I noticed this and then another parent mentioned it at the parent’s orientation at the dorm. I just emailed Reslife about it.

We had a good move-in experience at Russell on Saturday. Lots of help. We were also early when it was cool and everyone was still fresh.

We had to adjust my d’s loft down a notch - it could go down further if she wants, but then it is probably too low. It was very close to the ceiling. We needed a hammer to knock out the supports because they were very firmly in place. There were also few options for placing the loft because of placement of bulkheads in the room, and the large flourescent lights that are attached to the ceiling. It is fortunate her roomie did not have a loft, because I don’t know where it would have gone. My D also has a tough time getting into the loft due to where one of the bulkheads is placed in the room (can’t go up or down that way). The other way is OK, but not ideal. She says…just another reason never to be drunk.

The beds were stuck to the floor initially. The roomie had been there for days and had not done anything to the room because she could not move them. It really did take some muscle to move them, but DH was able to do it.

I thought they had a ton of drawer space, and enough hanging space if you used the right hangers for slacks or skirts. We also found a hanging shoe thing that oriented long ways in the closet and it was really great, because there is very little room for shoes in the bottom of the wardrobe.

I can’t imagine being tripled in a room like my D’s. Misterbill, it is a bummer that there was no assistance on Thursday, but I guess they can’t coordinate it for the early folks. It is a lot of work to haul that stuff up those steps!

DD was one of those moving in on Thursday to be ready for the mass of freshman on Saturday. It seemed like half the Towers moved in early - loooong lines for the elevators, but it sure beat the previous 3 years where we had to lug her stuff up 3 flights of stairs! After freshman year, you move yourself in!

Hello all… Well, as far as packing, i used everything, boxes, contractor bags, bins, etc… Was fully loaded. Coulndt hardly see out the back window. Had a Thule ski carrier and a hitch carrier all full. Good move in experience. Moved freshman daughter in Saturday. Showed up at 7:45 am and was directed by one of the security folks to another Udel person who was in front of Harrington. He instructed us to pull in to the driveway that’s in front of Harrington A and to unload, We had 30 minutes. So we unloaded everything and took eerything upstairs (she was on third floor) and piled everything outside the door, since she could only get the key after 8Am. I parked accross from parking lot 5, I think its parking lot 3. Then went back to the dorm and then noticed all the yellow tshirt helpers-. Oh well, too late. We had everything upstairs already. So after she got her key, we went in the room. The beds were bunked, so my son and I had to take them apart and then put them in their location. Then the rest of the day was just unpacking and putting stuff away. Took back only a TV box, a printer box. Pretty good overall… In the afternoon went to Wlimington to BB and B and Target to get her some things that she forgot and then did a Pathmark run. By the way, where is the Costco?
Thanks…

There’s a Costco near the Christiana Mall but we use BJs at home and there is one on route 4 which is closer to UD. The Pathmark isn’t the nicest store but it’s cheaper than the Acme.

There is also a Shoprite in one of the shopping centers (with a Staples). We were there during our initial visit last summer and I recall it was pretty nice.
