Move-out and shipping stuff.

Dear CC members,
its almost end of the year!
I was wondering how do people move out stuff if they dont live near here.

I have to ship all my belongings to Massachusetts...
Is there like a carrier company (UPS,etc) service that is joint by UCLA?
It seems like Hilltop doesnt sell packing boxes.
or, do I have to find a person who has a car that will help me buy boxes and give ride to nearest UPS store?

How did upperclassmen do it last year?
please share some experiences!

frequently discussed topic in college life. try there + use search function.

uhh....how did you move in?

just do the same thing to move out.

Hilltop should have packing boxes soon. They are small though, and cost too much. There is a carrier company that will keep your packed items for a fee (over the summer), but since you won't be at UCLA anymore, then sorry.

As VTEC said, I can only think of sending your items back the same way you got them.

Another advise is to sell all the stuff you don't need, assuming you don't live on the hill (bed, sofa, TV, table, chair, desk, or anything spacious).

If you live in the dorms, I'm sure you have lots to throw away or give away. You should only be taking back your clothes, school materials, electronics, bedding.

I hope you didn't bring 20 shoes with you, haha.

ask a friend if you can keep it in their apartment over the summer (and pay them....or not). if you dont have any friends with apartments, try private messaging someone on fb marketplace who is looking for a subletter and asking if you can perhaps pay them a bit for storage space. hey, it worked for some of my friends from OOS

I think he's moving out of UCLA for life. So they would be "gifts".

I don't know how much you're shipping, but if it's about a carload of stuff, I would check out Fedex/Kinkos up on Westwood Blvd. by Ohio. If you have no car, take the Blue Bus there and buy boxes and tape. Fill them up and take them back 1 by 1 on the bus or borrow a lift in someone's car. 20 lbs. worth of stuff costs about $10 for Fed Ex ground shipping. We just went through this exercise a few weeks ago with my son who was leaving Berkeley for the summer. For some reason, that one carload full of stuff we were able to get up there in August (in a Prius, no less) turned into two full carloads. 5 big boxes (a good carload) cost about $40 and arrived in LA 3 biz. days later.

I found out Rieber vista is giving out free boxes!

so is summit... well, there's a sign, but no more boxes xD
