My D is a first year at LC, and I'm already trying to figure out what we can do with all her stuff over the summer. We are 2000 miles away and hope to not have to ship it back and forth. Does anyone know if LC offers storage, or if there are any reasonable storage places around LC? I also heard that LC offers housing over the summer to students who take summer courses or do internships, I was almost wondering if it would be worth it to just rent a dorm room for the summer and split the cost among her friends to store stuff there. Any ideas?

Easy. There are several options. There is a service that picks up and packages your stuff in boxes and either ships it home to you via UPS or stores it for you and delivers it upon your return in the fall/ or you can pick her up get her stuff in boxes and ship it home via UPS or Amtrak or Greyhound or rent a van and drive it home making a mini vacation (what we do)/ or give it to charity and start over in the fall with new bedding/lamps/plastic dishes etc/ or find a storage facility on your own in manhattan. I don’t think Fordham allows you to store stuff on campus. They are very strict about making rooms clean and passing inspection by the RA before departing. Its like move in day in reverse only without the upperclassmen helping you move in! Its so much fun! (NOT). HAHA. But you are one of millions doing it, so just hang in there and get on with it.

She should have brought some stuff home spring break last night! If not, bring it home Easter, or start boxing and shipping UPS gradually over the next few weeks. Sometimes you get lucky and friends who live locally will take a big lamp for you for the summer or such stuff. But that is rare.

Good luck.

What is the name of the service? She only brought a carryon for spring break (we live in Florida so she had lots of Florida clothes still here); she’s not coming home for Easter; and she’s doing a Global Outreach right after school ends so she’s not coming right home after school ends. She’s also going back up there for the Jesuit Student Leadership Conference in July and hopefully will be going up early if she gets chosen to be an Orientation Leader, so we would rather just store her stuff up there. I was asking if anyone knew a storage facility that is reasonable, but a service that picks up, packages and stores stuff would be great. Again, she’s at the LC campus, so we need something in Manhattan. I know yours is at the RH campus, so I was hoping that someone at LC might know what we could do. Any other LC students who live far away have any suggestions?

I forget. We didnt use the service. But I do know that ResLife knows about it. The service, as I recall, sends emails to the students (very soon) and I think mails them a pamphlet home at the same time. Call ResLife. Its a very good service from what I know, very reliable. And yes, they store stuff for you.

Jesuit Leadership Conference is a big thing at Fordham this summer. Congrats on that. My kid did something similar last summer, but has a big internship this summer and we are waiting on news about something else VERY big, but don’t want to jinx it.

If your D did well at Fordham this year, which I presume, all sorts of opportunities will come her way next year. They will “tap-tap” on the shoulder. Starting with offers for a 5 year BA-MA in various departments, followed by the VERY prestigious Dean’s List Awards ceremony and mass (Fordham only does Dean’s List on an annual basis, not semester basis. Its much, much harder to maintain for the entire year…so its a big deal.) Then various special honors programs will come knocking, and the Campion Institute etc. They pick the best and shiniest fruit from the tree.

Its SOOOO important to get off to a good start at Fordham because so many things open up for you if you do. Good luck on Finals. Next year my kid is a Senior. I can hardly wait. All sorts of stuff happens for Seniors…then the BIG BASH on Eddies Parade at Rose Hill, where the parents get to party! LOL.

As far as LC opportunities, I am sure there are plenty of storage facilities available if you don’t use the service. Call ResLife, they can make suggestions.

Mine is staying for Easter as well…going to Long Island with friends.
