Crayon: I also enjoyed 'Big Fish' greatly!

Another movie that I liked is one that I've watched in my religion class at school: 'Romero.' The movie examines the life (leading up to the death) of the Roman Catholic Archbishop Oscar Romero during the Salvadoran Civil War during the 1980s. This movie mirrors the Oscar-winning movie 'Gandhi' in many aspects as well.

My two favorite movies of all time: Good Will Hunting and Dead Poet's Society.

I am probably missing 80% of the good ones...and that's just American movies. There are at least as many excellent French, German, Italian, Japanese and Russian movies.

But if I had to recommend one movie...it would have to be Casablanca.

les choristes - it's the perfect movie for a day when you're stuck inside like i am right now with all this snow!

hooray for alexandre! lets hear it for some of the great oldies! wow, reading your list reminds me of more movies...and a bunch of movies i want to see...

anybody else think bernie mac and ashton kutcher are horrible people for ruining guess who's coming to dinner?

movies not mentioned: best years of our lives, adam's rib, the american president, philadelphia story, charade, tootsie, on the waterfront, all about eve, west side story, a christmas story, back to the future, the man who came to dinner, etc. etc. etc.

i will make this simple:

rent any movie with:
* Audrey Hepburn
* Marlon Brando
* Gregory Peck
* Julie Andrews
* Mel Gibson

directed by:
* Martin Scorcese
* Frank Capra
* M. Night Shamalan
* Alfred Hitchcock

other fave movies of mine:
* Amelie
* American Pie 1 and 2
* Beauty and the Beast
* Cruel Intentions
* Lawrence of Arabia

City of God: This is was one of the most straight-forward, no BS movies I have ever seen. Some people would say that it glorifies drugs and violence but some of the best movies ever made have drugs and violence in them, particularly the great mafia movies.

Better Luck Tomorrow - Asian American straight A students in Cali (ha, kinda like some CC people I bet :) ) who do well in everything school related who resort to crime for their kicks. Things get out of control. I really liked this movie

Requiem For A Dream - Drug addiction. Very intense. 'Nuff Said

Doctor Strangelove - Stanley Kubrick movie, pretty funny even though it's old

A Clockwork Orange - I'm singing in the rain :P Another Kubrick film

City Of God - Excellent Epic of recent times

Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless Mind - Great love story with sci-fi influences

The Godfather I, II - two of the best films of all time hands down.l

One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest - Jack does a really great job in this film, funny but dramatic at the same time. Very enjoyable

Das Experiment - Cool German movie in which people are used in a psychological experiment. Half are prisoners, half are guards. The experiment goes south.

Oldboy - Korean movie about a guy who's put in a hotel room for 15 years and suddenly released. He has 5 days to find out why this happened.

Taxi Driver - 70's DeNiro movie directed by Scorsese, really cool.

Serpico - Another 70's movie, Pacino plays a cop in the NYPD and has to deal with the massive amount of corruption gripping the force.

Dog Day Afternoon - 70's Pacino movie (I gotta say, movies from the 70's in NY are my fave. :) ) he plays a guy who has to rob a bank in order to pay for a sex change operation for his boyfriend. I don't know, I kinda feel John Q stole some ideas from this movie.

Amelie - Crazy little french movie

25th Hour - Ed Norton is arrested for drugs, will have to go to jail the nxt day. He spends one day reconnecting with all his friends and family. A Spike Lee Joint

American History X - Ed Norton movie, deals with racism. Very cool.

The Believer - This movie has that kid from The Notebook, I forget his name. Anyway, he plays this jewish neo-nazi. Based on a true story. I liked this movie a lot.

Infernal Affairs - Hong Kong film, deals with the cops and the triads at odds with each other. The cops install a mole in the triads, but the triads install a mole in the cops! it leads to the moles trying to figure out who's who. Very nice film, will be remade here by Scorsese under the title "The Departed". It's not like the usual cop movie, there isn't a lot of gun fighting. This is more psychological.

Heat - It's a pretty long movie. It's pretty worth it too. Al Pacino and Rob DeNiro act together on the same set for the first time. Talk about a powerhouse. DeNiro plays a bank robber and Pacino plays the LAPD cop who's trying to take him down. Directed by Michael Mann.

Kids - it's rated NC-17, I don't know if that bothers anyone. It's from 95 I think? it's about Manhattan kids who go around havin sex. One learns she has HIV and has to tell the boy she had sex with before he spreads the disease to anymore kids.

Pi - About a math genius, shot over exposed so everything is this gritty black and white. Direct by Darren Aronofsky. Same guy as Requiem For A Dream

Meet Joe Black - I dunno, I liked this film. Maybe because Claire Forlani? She's pretty fine.

Shattered Glass - That Hayden Christiensen or whatever kid plays Stephen Glass, reporter for The New Republic. This is based on a true story. Basically while at the TNR Glass fabricated almost all his stories. Pretty neat film. Not long or anything and a good story.

Run Lola Run and The Princess and The Warrior - Two films from a German director. Run Lola Run is kind of the better of the two but Princess focuses more on love. Great soundtracks and ideas.

Hey everybody
here are just some of my favorite:

American History X
Fight Club
Gladiator
Good Will Hunting
Schindler's List
Shawshank Redemption (thus my name)
The Untouchables

I plan to see Million Dollar Baby, Finding Neverland, The Aviator, and Hotel Rwanda
