its 2am here and i dont feel like sleeping... any suggestions?

Proof! It’s a movie about an insane mathematician and finding the author of a math proof - very Uchicago XD. It features such choice lines as, “You want to live in Evanston?” :D

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Proof_(2005_film)

i decided to watch it. it looks a lot like good will hunting, another favorite of mine. should be good!

damn this is actually really good… and not just because of the line about evanstown :P

If you have the time and want to read a good book about UChicago, check out “Monsters of the Midway” by Jeff Rasley. It’s based on Rasley’s experience as a member of the newly re-instated 1969 UChicago varsity football program. Set against the backdrop of the Vietnam War, it’s full of eccentric, dare I say quirky, characters trying to balance the demands of playing football on a horrible team with an indifferent, sometimes hostile student body and the anti war turmoil on campus.

(In case you weren’t aware, the first Heisman trophy was awarded to a UChicago player, Jay Berwanger, and the early Chicago teams dominated college football. And then it all fell apart and the football program was cancelled during the Hutchins era.)

Chain Reaction, starring Keanu Reeves. The best.

When Harry Met Sally
Proof
Chain Reaction
Rope (Hitchcock; indirectly based on the Leopold and Loeb murder in Hyde Park, but very disguised)
Swoon (actually about the Leopold and Loeb murder)
the Indiana Jones movies (the fictional Indy got his PhD at the U of C)

If you want a sense of films by U of C grads, have a look at anything by:

Mike Nichols: The Graduate, Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?, Silkwood
Hayden Schlossberg: The Harold and Kumar movies
Philip Kaufman: The Right Stuff, The Unbearable Lightness of Being

Not completely sure, but I think the movie Michael had a scene shot at the Gleacher Center in Downtown Chicago
