Moving in by plane

Hi CC, it’s been a while! I’m incredibly excited to be moving into BS in just a couple of weeks, but since I live too far away to drive, I’ll be transporting all of my stuff via plane. I’m hoping that I’ll be able to cram everything into a couple of suitcases, but I’m not sure if the larger items (mattress pad, comforter, etc.) will fit, so to those who have done this before, what can I do to make moving in as smooth as possible?

We ordered most everything online so it could be shipped to the school for free. If a parent is flying with you, you could arrive a day early, rent a car, and buy everything locally. If you’ve already purchased everything back home, you could ship it USPS, stuff it in suitcases (two 50-lbs bags per person at $25/bag on most airlines), or both.

If you are not traveling with a parent(s) (which doubles/triples the luggage allowance) your best bet, if you don’t already have the bulky items, is to order them online and have them delivered to your school address. If you already own the bulky items, you can pay for the extra baggage, or ship it yourself.

Helpful advice, thanks! @GoatMama @skieurope

I know many people who have used the service where you order at Bed bath and beyond in your hometown and pick up in store when you arrive near campus. If you do indeed need to check the bulky items- I highly suggest you buy a huge duffle bag to pack these items in. It has maximized space and distributed weight for us. We bought a cheap samosonite duffle on amazon that has become indespensibe

You can order from B.B. & Beyond, Target, Walmart, PB-PB Teen, & Best Buy ( plus others) for delivery to the store near your school for pick up. In addition to ordering online, you can go into your local store to select items from your packing list. The items will be waiting for you at the store near your BS - they check for availability upon placing your order.

Fly Southwest — 2 checked bags fly free per person.

If your parents will not be with you and you won’t have a car, ship stuff to school rather than doing the store puckup. They are usually very well organized in the school mail room for this!

Thanks to all for the helpful advice! I’ll be sure to look into shipping to/near school. So excited!!
