Moving in

It seems like my d is taking too much (we won't talk about the number of shoes - Imelda would be proud).

It looks like we will need a small uhaul to carry everything. Is this usual or do I need to make her consolidate?

(we have a full size SUV)

If you need a uhaul, it's probably too much.

Is your daughter going to have a roommate? If so you might ask your daughter to consider whether all this stuff is going to overwhelm the room and cause friction...

If possible she could wait until T-giving break for getting winter clothes. I am encouraging my daughter to bring as little as possible. Of course our drive is comparatively short if she needs something.

I can't wait to hear how Mercersburg turns out for her. My d (in second guessing mode) keeps telling me all the reasons she should have chosen M'burg!

Yes they have roommates and was going to wait until xmas to change winter for summer/fall. Since we don't have a lot of time for move in, I was thinking of getting a wardrobe box so she can hang all of her clothes here at home and simply transfer them. I was going to bring her computer in its box. A box for bedding. Box for undi's, towels, etc. Box of books, another of school supplies. Box for makeup and hair dryer and shower stuff. Seems to add up....

See if you can increase the height of her bed. Her school probably has risers she can use. Then, she can store some things under her bed. You should be able to buy under-the-bed storage units. I bought one or two. I think they were from Bed Bath & Beyond. Hooks over the closet door are handy. Door sizes vary, so you may need to wait until you know the width of the door.

If you cannot fit everything into an SUV, it will probably not fit comfortably in room. Tell her to cut back.

Agree with prettyckitty above. We borrowed an SUV and everything fit (barely!). If you need to rent a uhaul on top of that, it will be too much for a typical dorm.

But what about the shoes? :)

I took 3 pairs of shoes to school. I survived. :)

Probably you need athletic shoes, sneakers (there's a difference, haha), dressy shoes, and some flip flops. Not so many! I have tons of shoes but barely wear 2 of them. I'm strange, though.

I'm limiting my daughter to two suitcases and a carry-on. That's all she's going to take. She can buy winter clothes when she gets there.

PhotoOP: that's a little constrictive, but definitely not impossible. That was how I did it, and one of my suitcases was my fencing bag. Rock on.

How much else does everyone else who flies take?

I have a friend who is shipping A LOT of stuff to school. But she is not normal.
lol
Cough (Ballerina) Cough

So how many duffel bags/suitcases worth?

If you are asking me I dont exactly know how many but I do know shes shipping over a fridge over and at least 2 boxes of apparel.

actually,
im ordering my fridge online and having it shipped to the school......
and im shipping all my bed stuff,
all my dorm stuff,
most of my clothes,
shoes,
and whatever.
my dad is getting the the small uhaul point too
haha
it feels like my bs stuff is taking over my room :)

I told you guys she's not normal. lol

Get On Yahoo!

Haha i'm going to a volleyball camp and I'm taking way too much... But I've never been to this one and I don't know what to expect! We have 3 athletic sessions a day, and I'm not sure if I'll want to change clothes between morning and afternoon... I'm expecting to sweat. A lot. Haha
So, for 4 days (10 athletic sessions total), it's 8 t shirts, 5 pairs of shorts, 6 sports bras, 10 pairs of socks!!, 6 undershirts, plus whatever other clothes I "think" I need last second.

Packing for boarding school will be helllll.
