And I can’t talk her down. So much STUFF for two kids. We’re taking two cars but we could use a truck.
Did she not see her brother’s room last year? Where does she expect to store them all?
Shoe storage and access would be a problem. I saw underbed shoe rack (if the bed is set high. Won’t work if the bed is bunked/low) but I don’t like the rack b/c if you kick it all the shoes fall off. She could get one 7" high 60 Qt underbed plastic box and fill it up with shoes but then where do the overflow shoes go?
I can see girls could take twice more pairs of shoes than boys can b/c flats take less volume than air jordans but there still is limited volume.
I was concerned about how many clothes - particularly athletic gear - DS is taking; then, yesterday, we learned from the school that he is in a triple. (School emailed this to us to “set our expectations, since it is out of the norm.”) I am not sure if that means he’ll have MORE space or LESS. Could be a really huge room, or could be a double that’s shared by 3. Guess we’ll find out soon enough. Less than 24 hours now…
Her plan is to put them in her suitcase under her bed. I am calmer now that I see how much space there still is in my car. It all looked worse when it was filling up the living room.
Less. It means they overenrolled and had to convert a double into a triple.
Super. :\
@hellomaisy, I’m told some rooms are true triples.
Check to see if bed raisers are allowed - they give you more underbed storage space. But…no one needs that many shoes!
My sister and I were reminiscing earlier today about going back to school in one car with all of our stuff. Times have changed for sure!
My daughter has all her shoes stored in a suitcase under her bed, but thankfully, they fit in one suitcase (albeit a big one), not three. And she’s in a triple that was a double last year, so the amount of storage space she has is TINY. But she and her roommates will just have to find a way to make it work. I have my doubts as to how well mandatory in-room study hall will work with three kids in such a small space, but am holding my tongue for now.
I should clarify that the three bags referenced were ordinary grocery bags, not suitcases!
To be fair to your daughter, that’s a bit of a difference and if those included boots (either for function or fashion), even this boy can see how a girl would come with 3 grocery bags. Still too many, but she’ll have to learn on her own.
I just returned from the drop off. My daughter and her roommate have a room that is about half the size of last year’s room. It was comical to watch them attempt to maneuver around the piles of things they had brought. Fortunately, each has a closet (again, much smaller than last year’s) and lots of built in storage drawers, etc. Underbed storage drawers too. I brought home some empty duffels, suitcase, and plastic tubs. It seems to have worked out and the room was pretty well organized when I last saw it. With a room that small, I think they will have to be very conscious about keeping it clutter-free!
I was so not ready at all to take her back to school today. The summer flew by and my house is way too quiet.
My daughter’s roommate is international and thus came with much less clothing. But she looks to be the same size as my girl, so maybe she’ll be able to share my daughter’s things.
