Moving in

Hello all,

I'm moving in on August 30th. My parents think that it's ridiculously early and they want me to move it to 9/1. Is traffic really bad on the 1st? What do you guys think?

I live about an hour away from UMich (far enough that it's not practical to commute), but I was originally planning to move in my stuff on 8/30, but not actually move-in until 9/1 (just in case that I miss anything and I have time to pick it up). It sounds silly and is a waste of money, but is it worth the extra $150?

Also, for other freshmen, when are you guys moving in?

Thanks!

I wouldn’t pay 150 just in case you forget something. Your parents could always just ship something to you.

Yeah, just paying $150 to drop your things off seems like a massive waste of money…

So should I move in on 8/31? Can any current students weigh in on this?

Thanks!

How does this cost of $150 come about? The gas to and from Ann Arbor?

Well I’m moving in September 1-2. I think the move in days are scheduled in the M-Planner that you received. I’m not sure if you can move-in earlier though. Is it worth it to ship items and stuff? I’m flying to Michigan so I’m not sure how I should pack and how I will get my items there. Any advice on that?

qwerty, i think the extra 150 is the fee added to room&board for those 2~3 extra days.

yo ab,i’m moving in on the 30th :)

^Yay! But are you an IOS who lives really close to U of M like I am?

I’m leaning towards 8/31 or maybe even 9/1 … it’s just I won’t be at home for the next few days, so I’ll need to call once I come back early next week. Does anyone know how you can change the move-in date … e-mail (what address?) or phone?

lol no,im OOS, attending the intl orientation, and no, im not close to UM at all; in fact, im flying to get there. >.<

I thought the move-in date was non-negotiable because of orientation and such, at least that’s how our school does it. You should move your stuff the day you move in. There’s no reason to waste 2 hours plus money just to do it.
