moving junior year?

hi guys!
due to unforeseen circumstances, my family had to move across the country. This would have been fine but it was right before my junior year meaning that a lot of things have gotten messed up. I’m really concerned about how my ECs will line up because it looks like I’ll have to quit a few of them and I am not sure how that looks.

I’m 99% sure that I’m going to have to quit four of my ECs (which were 80% of my ECs) due to them not fitting in my schedule, moving too late in the season, or it not being offered, which means that all of my leadership positions I had lined up are gone and I’m left starting from scratch. I’m concerned that when I do apply to schools, they won’t like that I don’t have a single EC that goes from grades 9-12, even though my interests really have not changed. Am I wrong?

any advice would be appreciated, thank you so much!

That can be a difficult time to move, but sometimes it is necessary. You will be leaving lots of familiar things. You can look at it positively as a chance for new opportunities. Maybe some of the things available at the new place will resonate with you.

Try to be positive. That goes a long way. People respond to it. Seek out new things that might be interesting, and new people that might be interesting.

In terms of college, don’t worry about it. Admissions reps are very savvy. They will see you moved in the middle of high school. They will know that is difficult and will be impressed that you’ve embraced new opportunities. If there are any significant changes in what you are doing, you will very likely have a chance to address that in your essays.

Remember, always be positive in your essays. I always like to turn the tables and look at things from then opposite perspective. Imagine you are in an admissions office. You start to read an application from an application from a prospective student who moved in the middle of high school. Would you be most impressed if it made excuses or seemed complaining? Or you would you be most impressed if it noted the move and focused on the opportunities that that presented? It’s really a great lesson for life. Take it into junior year. Take it into the college admissions process. Take it into life. You will do great. Again, not that all that is easy. It is hard for you to be moving. It can be very painful. But you have something new, embrace it, learn from it, treat every new person you meet with respect and goodwill. All will be well. Good luck!

There also is an additional information section in your application. It will do you good to explain what happened there.
