Moving up a math lane but getting a C on transcript

Today I finished my summer school course on a bridge to trigonometry and algebra 2. I learned all of Geometry in a hard 6 weeks, earning a C as my final grade. I passed, but it will go on my transcript, and now I am unsure if I want that to be my decision. I’ve never gotten a C before. Is it worth it moving up to the advanced math lane in high school but getting a C on my transcript?

What grade will you be in next school year (Fall 2018)?

10th grade

Usually, as long as you are able to get into Pre-Calculus by the time you graduate (which you were on track to do even without the summer course), that is considered rigorous enough for almost every university in the country, meaning accelerating wouldn’t do that much to make you more competitive. If you were going into the 11th grade in the fall, then you would have made a significant difference in your chances at selective schools.

Since you’ve already completed the course and didn’t earn a good grade, it seems as if this has hurt your chances overall more than anything else, but I’d still say you have a chance if you show an upward trend in your grades from now on; junior year, in particular, is considered very important. You also should start moving upward in your extracurricular activities so you can hopefully get a leadership position and maybe even start prepping for your SATs.
