MS in Chemical BS/BEng in Petroleum engineering

I am an english student i currently have a BEngits equvilent to a BS in engineering in the uk we get BEngs instead, what i will say is i am currently looking to study aborad Stanford is the school i'd like to study as the MS level chemical or petroleum engineering would it be detrimental to my career if i studied chemical engineering instead of petroleum engineeering at the MS level i want to be involved in midsteam to be quite honest i don't really like the refining process i have a penchant for the expoloratory part of the industry

so i guess my question would be seeing as MIT is the barometer when it comes to chemical engineering if i were to get into that school should i go knowing that i could get a job at a top firm i am a big fan of thier practical school it really sold on me stanford don't offer the same type of learning .
