1.Michigan State University
2.University of Michigan- Ann Arbor
University of Wisconsin- Madison
Pennsylvania State University- University Park
University of Minnesota- Twin Cities
Purdue University
University of Illinios- Champaign

As my junior year is coming to a end, my ideal of what universities I have high interst applying to have been getting more clear. What is your opinion of the universities listed above? Which would you rather attend?

My opinion of Purdue is biased because I spent 5 days there a couple of summers ago, and the extreme humidity ruined it for me. Otherwise, it had nice classrooms and some of the dorms looked beautiful. The one I stayed in, however, was pretty crappy. I didn’t get to meet any students or talk to teachers, but the campus seemed pretty nice. Not the prettiest campus ever, but still nice.

MSU- Three of my cousins went there. One is graduating this year, one is transferring back to SVSU, and one is staying. The two that didn’t transfer seem to really love it, there’s lots of school spirit, and it seems like there is always something there to do. It really doesn’t seem like my kind of place, but then again, i’ve never been on a visit.

Michigan- A lot of people from my old high school go there, and one of my close friends is going next year. I’ve visited the campus several times (but never a formal tour) and been to a couple of football games. Michigan football games are amazing even if you’re not a big sports fan, seriously. My only big issue is that Ann Arbor/the campus in general in the wintertime is dark, dreary, freezing, and depressing. Of course that’s to be expected considering where it is, but consider that!

MSU: Crap
U Michigan: Good for engineering or business
UW-Madison: Same as above but not as good
Penn State: Good place to waste your money unless you major in business
UM-Twin Cities: See “UW-Madison”
Purdue: Engineering is good, nothing else
UIUC: See “UM-Twin Cities”

Michigan State University: I guess a decent school. Never really heard of it.
University of Michigan- Ann Arbor: Very large school with great academics and sports.
University of Wisconsin- Madison: ???
Pennsylvania State University- University Park: Very good school; somewhat of a larger party school
University of Minnesota- Twin Cities: ???
Purdue University: Decent
University of Illinios- Champaign: Decent

I doubt it’s where all of University of Michigan rejects go, I mean University of Michigan- Ann Arbor is my top second choice. Though many prefer Michigan State University over University of Michigan- Ann Arbor.
Few reasons:
MSU has a larger student body
MSU has a atmosphere of study hard, yet still have fun
MSU has a larger and much better campus, all connected
MSU top in study abroad
MSU residential colleges
MSU school spirit
East Lansing ( though Ann Arbor is a top college town)
MSU student ( not all ofcourse) doesn’t make academics a competition
etc…

I do think Michigan State University is underrated. Though, do you think if I ask most of MSU students why are they attending the school and most will say because they didn’t get into University of Michigan- Ann Arbor? I ask because I do have high interest in University of Michigan- Ann Arbor. Such reason it’s my top second choice.

Well Michigan State University, it’s only about 10 minutes from my house… which have pro’s but also many con’s. I’ve only visited Michigan State University in person, while rest on google street view.

I personally like UM’s campus better than MSU’s. Most of MSU was very nice, but some of it looked dated. And AA>E. Lansing, but E. Lansing is not as bad as some people make it out to be.

I don’t see Michigan State University anymore dated than my top second choice University of Michigan- Ann Arbor. I think the most dated well university campus I know of is Indiana University- Bloomington. I mean the campus was really dated and horrible lawn.

Is it the squad that makes one like University of Michigan- Ann Arbor campus more? I would say it’s a interesting feature, but must look at campus overall.

If you plan on leaving the state of Michigan ever than don’t go to MSU over UMich. UMich is an internationally prestigious school. MSU is known as a party school, not even a viable academic choice outside the state of Michigan.

Well after I finish undergraduate, I have no top choice university when speaking of graduate school ( which will be medical school for me). When attending medical school, I think I will prefer a more larger city… I mean as being so young, exciting, viberant etc… I would like a city that offers the same. I mean at age 22 I wouldn’t want to be in a city that only has little to offer. So attending Michigan State University as a undergraduate shouldn’t harm my chances with a graduate school out of state? As much as I like the state of Michigan, expericing New York City, Chicago, Boston, Seattle, Los Angeles, San Francisco, etc… at age 22 ( or while attending graduate school for 4 years) would be nice.

1) I respect the commitment to PUBLIC education that each of these universities represent.
2) The “Big 10” schools are vastly underrated academically.

1.Michigan State University-Admittedly one of the weaker schools of this lot academically, but is still a good university with some stellar faculty and is strong is various fields.

2.University of Michigan- Ann Arbor-See UC Berkeley, UCLA, Virginia, UNC- One of the top 5 public in the country super strong in many areas (BTW get your heads out of the professional schools for a while and think about other academic departments Michigan is top 10 in MANY)

University of Wisconsin- Madison-In my opinion the most underrated school in the country. The faculty is tremendous. On par with the top 5 publics mentioned in the Michigan comment. I don’t think students there realize how strong Wisconsin is on many areas.

Pennsylvania State University- University Park- See Michigan State. I would probably opt for MSU before PSU. Strong in some areas.

University of Minnesota- Twin Cities-Academically, a notch below Michigan and Wisconsin but just slightly. Again, this is a GREAT university.

Purdue University-Strong in sciences and engineering, which seems to be the priority areas. Would put it in the MSU-PSU category maybe right between

University of Illinios- Champaign-See Minnesota. BUT the students there are pretty mediocre. I don’t think they appreciate what they have. Many are pretty lazy and have a sense of entitlement. Frat culture is way out of control. Engineering is top notch of course. GREAT institution, they should try to recruit students who appreciate being there.
