oh wow, sorry Michael! I didn’t see your post before I sent that last one.

Really though, you and everyone who are so helpful are just amazing… this site wouldn’t be the same without people like you to help people like me

And thanks so much AGAIN! What a relief to know they look at singing before acting… I didn’t know about the whole thing with many schools wanting actors who could sing until I had already started auditions— at my first audition ( CMU) they said " We look for actors who can sing… we’d like for you to be able to sing, but before anything we want very strong actors" … which scared me a little, cause I CAN act, but not to the caliber of many many students auditioning right now… I know I"m way stronger at singing then acting— and I’m completely aware that there are plenty of people auditioning who are way better than me, but I’m willing to do all I can to make myself better…

One thing I wish schools would look into is a students drive, passion, and willingness to learn… there are plenty very talented people who don’t have a lot of drive and passion, and are only going into the major because it’s something they’re good at/ something they do as a hobby… I mean school’s are auditioning people into their programs so that they can learn and improve their skills… many people end up getting cut from programs because they don’t have drive… heh… I guess i feel like if schools looked at the drive, determination, and passion of auditioning students, I could get in wherever I wanted…buuuuuut that’s not how it rolls, and I’m just sittign on the " be patient" bus… soo ironic that my top schools are the ones I have to wait the longest for ha ha :-)-- just got my BoCo rejection today, and I"m still waiting to hear from CMU, Uarts, and Webster… soooooo high hopes!!!

purple9- Pls keep us posted on your S’s journey at UArts. My S is VERY INTERESTED in UArts, went to their spring open house, and will be following the UArts forum closely next year. I know MichaelNKat does a superb job of keeping us all posted on UArts and his daughter, but I will be especially interested in hearing about the journey from your S’s perspective. Congrats to all of you! Whew- you’re done for now! :)

Congratulations purple9. Now you can just sit back a bit and relax! Though it’s a few months off, if at any time you have any questions about the start of the semester, moving into the dorms, where to shop locally for dorm stuff etc, feel free to ask.

Congratulations purple9! Our D accepted last year at this time and has loved her freshman year at UArts. I visited last weekend and was so excited to see their production of Illyria at the Arts Bank theater. The talent was impressive to say the least! We have been nothing but happy with the quality of the education and the positive atmosphere at the college. Getting to know Philadephia has been an added bonus! email me if you have questions for my D and I will put you in touch.

Congratulations purple9. My S is just finishing up his freshman year and has nothing but positive things to say about his experiences. It does feel great to have the decision made and you should feel confident that your S will have a great experience at U Arts. Now you can both enjoy the rest of his senior year.

“Now you can both enjoy the rest of his senior year.”

Of course there are those students (like my daughter) who after sitting in on classes and sending in the deposit announce they are retiring from high school. The next month and a half could be interesting indeed! ;)

Purple9 - I was actually thinking of the more social aspects of Senior year like the prom, final choir concert and graduation ceremonies - fun stuff to cherish! My S also had a major case of Senioritis which began in September of his senior year. I really think they should revamp the entire Senior year education to include real life lessons like financial responsibility but that is an entirely different discussion. I can’t believe he is almost finished his freshman year and feel so fortunate that it was such a poistive experience at U Arts. Your S will love it!

Anyone know the official number of students for the class of 2014? My D is attending and we are thrilled. According to the UARTS facebook page it looks like about 15 girls and 13 boys.

I was talking to my daughter tonight who informed me the numbers are rumored to be high this year. Don’t know what the actual numbers are but the numbers being bandied about are even higher than what what frantiki posed. Could be lots of explanations for this from greater yields than anticipated to commingling or confusion with the acting program. Who knows. In a week or two those in the freshman class will know the real numbers just from orientation emails sent to all the MT freshmen. :)

28 MT’s or more is about a 30% increase in planned yield. Hopefully they are planning resources accordingly. Mike’s point about co-mingling with acting or dance majors is a possibility Welll in either case I am sure this will be an exceptionally talented group! Those of us parents who observed the phenomenal talent in all the college auditions are witness to that.

I think the numbers may be significantly higher this year. All of the senior MT students serve as mentors for freshmen. There are 22 seniors and my daughter tells me many of the seniors have 2 freshmen they are mentoring! Don’t know the exact count but it appears to be well in excess of 25.

Dropped D off at Uarts this weekend and had a great time meeting everyone at orientation. Still do not have an exact number on the 2014 MT Class. The only number that was officially disclosed was that there are 98 incoming freshman in the Brind School of Theatre Arts - total. Not sure how that breaks down, but it seems to me from the info that Mike has provided and my estimate’s from speaking to D , we are in excess of 30.This is certainly well over the stated goal of 22-24(which factored into our decision criteria) and I find it hard to believe that this is simply a miscalculation in offer/acceptance ratio. Is anyone aware of a planned strategy to increase class size? Are they looking to have a sophomore cut? We all know these numbers can impact performance opportunities as well as access to Profs etc. Mike, if you have any info on this I would be interested in discussing. Feel free to PM me, I will send you my contact info to discuss. Thx.

I understand there are around 40 in the class and I think this is MT only. Wow! That’s a big class. Wonder why the bigger numbers? I know that the class of 2013 is quite small - not sure how small but around 6 or 7 girls and maybe 14 or 15 boys unless there are ‘transfers in’ this semester. Would be interested in knowing UArts “new philosophy” ! I’m sure they have this very well thought out in any case and have accounted for the numbers with new teachers and available classes. Don’t worry Class of 2014 - they will definitely have it covered! It’s a wonderful school that really cares about the students.

oregontheatremom: 40? Wow, that would be a double from the class of 2013. I suppose it is worth a call to Gilbert or Raine to better understand this. If it is a “new philosophy” it would have been appropriate to share it with prospectives prior to decision time. Fellow UARTS parents, please do not misinterpret my concern as a lack of confidence in the excellence of the program…but this is really surprising. Thoughts?
