MT college audition HELP =]

Hi all. This is the first time I ever did this, but I was wondering if there was anyone out there that could suggest monologues/songs for college auditions.
And, if you are a MT major; what tips could you give to seniors like me out there =]

thanks!

Alexa, welcome to the CC list about Musical Theatre! If you don't mind my doing so, I would suggest that you spend a few hours reading through the various threads on this list, as they include tons and tons of information that you are likely to find very helpful. In addition, please realize it's going to be tough for people to recommend songs and monologues for you without ever having met you or heard you perform! The best person or people to help you with such selections are your voice teacher (if you have one; if you don't, perhaps there is a chorus or music teacher at your school who could assist) and an acting teacher or director you have worked with. You should probably begin by reading as many plays as you can and trying to figure out your type, if you don't already know it. Monologue books (with selections from real plays, and NOT standalone monologues written for teens) may be a good way to begin. If you find something intriguing, you can then go read the whole play. Good luck.

Alexa -- NotMamaRose is correct -- it can be overwhelming, but spend some time reading through the MT threads on this website. You'll find a great deal of valuable info here -- but meanwhile, here are a few tips: try to find someone to work with who is familiar with the audition process, and specifically college auditions. Many voice and music teachers are not, and though well-meaning, they may steer you in the wrong direction. I am a vocal/MT coach, and frequently work with young singers who are technically very good, but have no understanding of performance skills. MT programs are looking for acting as well as singing ability, and many focus strongly on dance as well. So in your preparation, be sure you are as prepared as possible in all three areas.

Alexa, good luck in your search! Once you have browsed thru these threads, I'm sure you'll have some more specific questions; you'll find everyone on this site very helpful.
