Please share deadlines for MT programs that are still accepting applications. I know Ithaca and Pace have deadlines in 2018 - any others?
James Madison application deadline is January 15, and there are auditions in February.
Plymouth State University accepts applications and has auditions into March, I believe.
I think quite a few schools accept applications in 2018.
My daughter is just getting ready to submit hers for NYU. I believe it is January 1 for them.
Lots, actually. Go on the web site of each school that you are considering. Break legs!
Carthage - we know someone there. It’s a BA degree
Not to mention all the schools that permit walk ins at unifieds. Some schools do not do walkins at all like BoCo and Hartt, but many do and you need not apply until after they see your kid.
I think Manhattanville in NY (not far from NYC)might still be taking applications if anyone is interested. My D visited the campus and it is very pretty but small. She didn’t feel it was a good fit for her, so she didn’t apply, but her friend loved it, applied and was accepted with a great scholarship. It’s a BFA MT. Just wanted to pass this along…
Hartt does do walk-ins, they did them in NYC last weekend.
I asked Jan Rust from Hartt about walk-ins in Chicago and she said they won’t have any available for MT but can probably fit in some acting walk-ins
Hartt tends to be fully booked. Last year in Chicago they were not taking walk ins, but a couple of students who waited on standby during check in to see if any slots opened if someone scheduled failed to show up got in. If interested, be politely persistent and hang around at check in time. It’s a wonderful program - D is a freshman there now.
Which schools have availability for walk ins really depends on current circumstances. There have been years when weather has prevented a number of people from getting to their auditions on time, thus schools had time available and did offer walk ins, even those schools that usually never do walk ins. Other years, schools may be completely booked solid and even though they’ve offered walk ins in the past, just don’t have any time available that particular year. The best thing to do is scout out the schools in which you are interested, walk the floors daily, possibly even a few times a day, to see who is taking walk ins and has times available that fit your schedule. Walk ins are not something you can count on or that can be guaranteed, but they can be great things to do if you find the opportunity to do some. Many a story on here of kids attending schools for which they did a walk in. So keep your eyes and minds open for those opportunities and break a leg!
My son did a walk in for Hartt MT in Chicago last year. Persistence pays off, so don’t give up! And I agree with @vvnstar each year is different. You never know which schools will have walk ins, so have some favorites and see if you can get a walk in or surprise yourself by winging it. The walk ins can turn into your favorite school
