<p>The Vma's are the same thing as the source awards now. Its pathetic. Everything is Black. They dont even let other artists play in at the event anymore. They play at another location.</p>

I think that MTV heard that the Hispanic market is big these days and grabbed every Hispanic act they could get to put on the show (and shuttled it down to Miami, although that's a holdover from last year). I'm not complaining that there are so many Hispanic acts, just that there aren't as many acts of other genres of music. <p>popular music today is mainly black artists (hip hop, r&b, rap). if you look at billboard records, in the past 10 years or so, there have only been 2 white, non-American Idol, artists to hit #1 (nickelback for how you remind me in 2000 and gwen stefani with hollaback girl in 2005). music goes thru phases, slow ballads to latino pop invasion to punk rock to hip hop/rap. Its just what is popular now. I think itll fade away soon. It seemed liek a lot of the biggest "white" names in the industry werent present. You didnt see britney/christina/madonna/etc.</p>

Therefore, it makes sense that most of the awards went to black artists. We're not too far away form the days when MTV refused to play music by any rap or black artists. Michael Jackson's Thriller was the first black album to be played on MTV. For rap, they created a whole other TV show to go on at night called Yo MTV Raps. Music goes through phases. By the way, Green Day won the most awards of the night anyhow. Why does everything have to be about race here?</p>
