What do you do in Mu Alpha Theta?

it's just an honor/award

it's in math club

yea, its a math club..basically you do math competitons based upon what math ur in. thats what we did last yr.

besides that, its like any other club..you fundraise, make money. my team also has a tutoring program (set up by me this yr) that we're gonna do for the school, also.

its just a nice thing to have on the app, really.

some groups host a tournament and invite other schools

Sounds cool. I am thinking of starting a petition for a chapter at my school.

yea... in ours... we just had to do 10 hours tutoring/year and we met occasionally to pretty much just eat... we did a bunch of stuff for pi day though.

Harpingchic stole me words on what Mu Alpha Theta does, except for Pi Day...which seems totally intereesting! :-D

in my school, ur inducted if you have a 85+ average overall, and a 93+ math average and you have to finish Math B (regents course, NY)

its juniors + seniors only, and the 2 or 3 sophmores who were advanced in math and good at it (including me)

you have to tutor some number of hours, but since i was a soph, they never told me anything about having to do it so i havent done it yet... im bad lol

no meetings though

our induction ceremony was March 14, pi day. we had pizza pi, apple pi, a pi trivia contest, and someone sang a song about pi lol.

at my school, its separate from math team

yea, my school has the same thing..we HAD a tutoring program this yr (not great...mine will be hott tho..i hope!) and we were SUPPOSED to do this minimum number of hours like a month or something. I guess im gonna hafta implement some sorta thing like that, too, one day.

oh im starting a chapter next yr too...

do most schools have an iniation ceremony? coz the president and i have decided that we dun wanna have one....

and is it open for all students? (why seniors and juniors only?) you just need to be in alg 2 or above right?? so we can include freshies too? (as long as they meet the B requirement for math grade)

Its math club. You do a lot of math.

for some reason, our mu alpha theta isn't as honorable or hard to get. will colleges still look at it the same as if some schools have harder requirements?

liz?: more than likely, yes, because the competitions are still the same...if you do well at a comp. you do well against other schools who might have harder requirements and such, so...

as for freeflyer: for most schools, its open to everyone, as long as ur in the right math classs...i was a freshman this past yr in alg 2 and i still did MAO
