<p>I'm a rising HS senior and am very interested in Marquette. I visited last summer and I loved it!
I really would like to be accepted to the 6 year physical therapy program. Are there any current or incoming Marquette PTs who could give me an idea of how hard it is to get into this program? I've heard it's pretty competitive but I would like to know specifics! Are PT shadowing or volunteering hours recommended/required, and did you do any? What was your ACT score and GPA? Should I take more AP sciences (I've only taken one)?</p>
<p>Just for reference: I currently have a 4.0 UW, 4.7 W with a 31 ACT. I've taken AP Biology, AP World History (5), AP U.S. History, and AP English. Next year I will be in AP Calculus, AP Govt, and AP English. I've done a couple PT shadowing hours but not too many (less than 10). I'm involved in leadership (NSHS Pres. and NHS Member At Large) and have over 300 service hours. Also in the process of GS Gold Award.</p>
<p>I have to think you’re in very good shape. Nothing is a slam dunk, but I don’t think you have to worry too much. Just keep doing what your doing!</p>
<p>I can’t specifically speak to the PT program at Marquette, but I have been told it is the second toughest program to get into after Nursing. My daughter is going to be a sophomore in the Nursing School at Marquette. She had a 31 ACT, 4.1 weighted GPA, and took mostly honors and AP courses, and I don’t think her acceptance was a particularly tough call for them. She also got a pretty decent academic scholarship.</p>
<p>That being said, I would highly encourage you to contact the PT department at Marquette and ask them directly. They won’t be able to tell you if you are a shoo-in or not, but they should be able to give you some broad guidelines as to what they are looking for in an applicant.</p>

<p>Well, you could contact that department and ask to speak with an adviser - perhaps during one of your visits if you are planing on doing that this summer at all. How far away is MU for you? If its not that far - say Chicago area where lots of students come from, schedule an appointment to drive up to talk to an adviser. It would probably be worth the trip. Call if distance is prohibitive. You’d want guidance before your senior years starts right?</p>
<p>One other thing you could try is to check out the Facebook group “Marquette Class of 2015: Real Students, Real Answers”. You could post a question to any incoming PT students and ask about any advice they might give you - what sort of things did they do and what are their stats. You could then judge yourself relative to them. There also are upperclassmen who watch the forum and might be able to point you to better resources. </p>
<p>Frankly, in my opinion, you seem very well situated and may very well be on the upper end of applicants to the program (top 30% maybe if not higher). That’s my educated guess anyway.</p>
<p>I was speaking to a woman a few months ago whose daughter had applied to the program and was waitlisted. She mentioned her daughter had a 30 ACT and was an honors/AP student - no idea her grade point. They were told it was unlikely she would get in off the waitlist so they looked elsewhere. If I remember correctly MU admitted less than 100 students into the program but had something like 600 plus applicants. By the way, she is now heading into her Jr. year at St. Louis University which is supposed to have a great program and is another Jesuit university. Goodluck!</p>
<p>Wow, it sounds like admission is very competitive! Do you know if she had any hours at a PT clinic or anything? I think the key may be showing a lot of interest in PT as a career, at least I hope so because that’s what I’m devoting my summer to!
I’ve looked into SLU as well as it seems SLU and Marquette both have very similar PT programs as well as campuses, student bodies, and social opportunities. SLU helped me set up an interview with a faculty member and a tour of the facilities. Hopefully MU will be as accommodating!</p>
<p>Just returned from Preview day for class of 2015 students and parents. I talked to two students who applied to the program and did not get in, but did get accepted to the A&S school. No idea what their stats were. I agree with ajax go to the facebook page for the class of 2015 students and ask and call the school.

<p>For entry into the Fall 2012 6 year DPT program, Marquette received “over 1100” applications for 62 spots. I think it’s a pretty holistic process, (think highly selective school) to get into this very selective program at Marquette. A 31 might do it, I’m guessing, if you’ve got some other great credentials. By no means is that a slam dunk. On the other hand, a 35 is no guarantee if you haven’t taken the right classes, shadowed, or have a compelling essay.</p>
