Much easier for men than woman to be admitted??

Just looking at some numbers.. probably common knowledge to those that have looked at this game. Here's what I see... I think these are 2008 numbers...
Yale
men applicants..8872.. men accepted 992.... 11.18 %

woman apps ..10,451 woman accepted 8.79%

trend seems to continue through all the LACs as well.. Middlebury for instance

Men.. 3234 applied, 656 accepted(20%),,,,,,, 286 attended

Woman 4589 applied 660 accepted (14%) 290 attended

Bodwoin had similar percentages, but also had a much lower rate of men attending to accepted.. so they in spite of many more woman applying, accept quite a few more men..

ouch, tough year to be the parent of a female valedictorian appling to Middlebury, Bodwoin, and Williams... three waitlist results.

They obviously wanted an even ratio at there school haha

286:290

close to 50% 50%

There are more women applying to college now. It’s something around 60% female and 40% male; therefore, more women will be rejected because there are more of them that are left out from filling in the limited amount of positions.

Yale 2008-2009 CDS:

http://www.yale.edu/oir/cds.pdf

Total first-time, first-year (freshman) men who applied 10,268
Total first-time, first-year (freshman) women who applied 12,549
Total first-time, first-year (freshman) men who were admitted 1,010
Total first-time, first-year (freshman) women who were admitted 942

45% of applicants were male, but 52% of admits were male. 9.8% males admitted, 7.6% of females. Males apparently have a lower yield than females, so the gender ratio balances at matriculation.
