muhlenberg, elon or suny geneseo

My daughter is deciding between Muhlenberg, Elon and SUNY Geneseo. Her first choice school was Bucknell but unfortunately did not get in RD. She was told that most of their students are admitted ED and basically because of financial reasons, she did not apply early decision. We were also told that Bucknell's decisions really weigh heavily the "interest" factor, and I think she did not come across as interested as some of the other applicants. So with the disappointment behind her, she is focusing on these 3 schools. She is interested in dual majoring in music performance and accounting and is able to do this in all three of these schools. Any insight to any one over the other. Any comments would be appreciated.

My older D was accepted at both Muhlenberg and Elon. She and we liked
both schools. Muhlenberg had a small contained feel but offered good
finaid. We also liked the combination of arts/business/communications.
She chose not to attend but it would have been fine. She had friends
who went, enjoyed themselves and graduated on time - they even have
jobs.

Elon was very impressive, an up and coming school with expanding
programs - their business and comm programs are well regarded. They
seemed very open to accomodating both parent and students. Unfortunately
their aid fell well short. We did note a pretty heavy frat scene, which
we had mixed feelings about. It was her first choice school however.

That was several years ago and at the time I think both schools were
not as well known and highly rated as they are now.

How involved does she want to be with the theater? Though Elon is an outstanding school for the performing arts, much of what it has is within its programs. Make sure that she would have plenty of opportunity to participate there as she is not in one of their audition programs.

Everyone I know who has been to Muhlenberg loves it. If cost is not an issue, that might be the best choice. However, Geneseo is the best bet for the buck, in my opinion.

I second the caution about Elon. Because it offers a BFA she might be shortchanged there if she is not in that program. She needs to know how her choice of private instructors in music, and performance opportunities would be affected if she is not in the BFA program but is pursuing a BA instead. My D is a music major at Muhlenberg, and if you need to know specifics about the program, please ask me.

Thanks for everyone’s advice. We just received Muhlenberg’s letter today that she received merit money for both music and dance so she was thrilled about that. She loves the fact that it seems that you can do it all at Muhlenberg. She would love to keep up her dancing and singing as well as study accounting. They make it sound like it will all work. She is going up for a sleepover in April and I hope she really likes it. As far as Elon goes, she has been accepted to their music department for vocal performance but because the music department is totally separate from the Theatre and Dance department, she knows she will never be in any school productions. She could take dance classes but again, she probably wouldn’t be in any productions. We know nothing of Geneseo yet. She will be visiting next week. She will be auditioning for both music and dance there as well. The price can’t be beat, but with the scholarships she received from both Muhlenberg and Elon, we could probably swing them as well.
