Muhlenberg's Academics

I have read such wonderful opinions about Muhlenberg here. Can anyone speak to the quality of the academics in specific terms? Where I live in the Northeast, I have found very few people have heard of Muhlenberg- even in theatre circles. However, here on CC it sounds ideal for a student who wants a great liberal arts education and is passionate about theatre. Is it really a fit academically for an A-/B+ student with very high (99th%) test scores?

mallory31, muhleneberg is amazing. do not worry about what people have “heard” of. most people know harvard and yale…then some schools with big time football teams like
u of MICH. go to the place that is the best fit for you. go off to college and find your own way… the people around you now should not mold your future because they have not heard of a school (not just muhleneberg but any place that you may be interested in ).

zobroward: What is amazing about it? Would love to hear.

There are almost 3,000 four-year colleges in the US.

“No one has heard of X” means nothing.

I just realized I never answered this. My D falls into that category. She has definitely been challenged and enjoyed her classes. She is able to juggle her academics with numerous ECs, including her primary passion, theater, and keep her grades up. She has good relationships with her professors and they have offered her a number of extra opportunities. For her, I am not sure she would have been able to take the same risks or engage in her activities to the same level at one of the more academically selective schools.

Like other schools of its caliber, Muhlenberg offers $$$ to attract top candidates and it works! There are definitely a lot of very smart, very driven kids at Muhlenberg, as well as kids who are tremendously talented in theater, music and dance. I think it tends to attract kids who have a variety of interests and like to pursue all of them and it gives them an opportunity to do that.Muhlenberg is a happy place but it is also a place where kids can take their academics seriously.

Muhlenberg is a great school and the campus is very nice and the food and cafeteria are fantastic. I think Muhlenberg and St. Lawrence are great choices just below and not far from schools like Lafayette and Bucknell.
