lol, no clue what it'll do to me academically, but sounds fun. Sorry collegemom, I saw what you wrote earlier, but was looking for any other info. :P;;;;;;;

where are you getting your information from, collegemom?

Muir in my opinion is the best.

My D's friend just graduated from UCSD. He gave us the DL on the campus. My D visited there two times and stayed in different colleges with different students. We toured the campus on another occasion. Don't worry about UCSD, it is NOT a party school. Muir is just the most social of the colleges, but at UCSD it is NOT a party environment.

I'm a bit confused then... what do you mean by "most social" if its not a party environment? Are people more friendly.... more hangout spots... what?

WOOO Muir! I went down for Scholar's Day and got the lowdown on Muir. Apparently, Muir students are happiest, and yes, we have the least GEs. I got a free lunch too, and ate at Sierra Summit, which is the DC for Muir. I got the pasta, which I don't highly recommend, since it's just average and kind of expensive, but the smoothies were good (although also pretty expensive). I've heard the sandwiches are good, though, and if you don't feel like going to Sierra Summit, Muir also has an all-Mexican dining commons :). The dorms (what I saw of them, anyway) were just okay. They were rather ugly, and apparently Muir is nicknamed the "prison cell", but they were fine in terms of living conditions. I also heard that if you don't put Muir as your first choice, you don't get it, which probably means its the most competitive, as collegemom16 has said.

It has the most partying of any college at UCSD, but there is little partying there (UCSD) in general. Don't be so literal :) Muir is not a quiet dorm. There is lots of activity. The students are out and about, and not locked up in their dorm rooms 24/7 studying. If you want to have some sort of a social life in college it is the best of what is available at UCSD. UCSD is not a good choice for students who like to party, go out and about, attend lots of athletic events etc. It is a quieter school with a studious population. The college system keeps the students more spread out from each other. If this concerns you, visit there to see what I mean before you accept admittance. My D thought she wanted to go there until she visited for the third time. She likes UCD better.

interesting. when i visit, what would you reccomend i check out? i plan on going down next weekend or sometime soon.

Take a campus tour. Where will you be staying? Do you know anyone there? What are your interests? Can you observe a class in session? How long will you be there? Will you be there during any kind of intense testing?
It is good you will be there on a weekend. Talk to as many students in your college/major as you can find. Prepare a list of questions about infomation that is important to you. Eat in different places on the campus. Check out the surrounding areas.

Im going to be going down for just the day... I live about 2 hours away, so we'll leave early in the morning, stay all day, and leave in the afternoon / night. Thanks for the great info.

Good luck, I hope you get the answers to your questions. Don't be afraid to talk to people, it is your one chance to find out what you need to know to feel confident in your decision. This is one of the most important choices you will ever make, so go for it!

Just got accepted to Muir as a Structual Engineer... he!! yeah!!.. Hows the view from the dorms, is it possible to see the beach? The beach is one of the main reasons i want to attend UCSD.

im in at SD and Muir!!!!!!!

can we really see the beach at MUIR????

Got accepted at Muir... don't know how (3.3 GPA/ 1970 SAT)... wants to go to Irvine (I live in OC)... Why should I go to SD when I can stay here and go to a nearly equally competitive university? If you can answer that well, you might be able to convince me to stop working on my UCI SIR...

Go to UCI. College is what you make of it. The difference between an education from UCSD and UCI, when it comes time for a career, is minimal...so it comes down to what you would want more, where you'd be the happiest.

But congrats on being accepted to Muir...I got in too. :D

muir econ! woohoo!

Thanks Sax... I think I'm gonna go with Irvine... I wish I lived close to SD because then I would have no reason to pick Irvine... but Irvine is really pretty, highly ranked and only 15 mins away. I have pretty much made my decision. Thanks for your input.

Lol, that one reason why I'd not go to Irvine. It's WAY too close to where I live. Nuh-uh. I'm going away for college.

No way, even if I get rejected to all 14 other colleges I've yet to hear of, I'd be going to UCSD than UCI, albeit that I got into UCI as biomedical engineering pre-med, which is technically the perfect major. Nonono, UCI = asian fest all over again. I'm sick of Asian communities, having had grown up in one. UCSD = beauty campus, beachside, good for bio, far away enough (though I wish it was farther from here).

Well UCSD is also mainly Asian, about 40%. Cacausian is like 32%.
