syneria I really don't much care for your comments, BUT UCSD has a substantial Asian population! Probably over 50%

i am so stoked that i got into muir!

btw, how do you know if UCSD is offering you financial aid? and if you applied as undeclared, when do you choose your major?

on the brochure i got; UCSD's asian population is nearly equal to its white population... around 34-36% for each.

ACCEPTED! (General Biology)
whooo, go muir! =)
i'm excited.

umm syneria. basically every UC in socal has a decent asian population. but seriously, what a racist comment, imo.

-_- Sorry guys. Maybe it'll sound better/less racist if you know that I'm Asian (Korean specifically), and I go to a school of literally 60% asians, with a good portion of that being immigrants who have show no interest in integration and speak Korean and talk Korean constantly.
I am immersed in a town where the Korean population is so tight that what SAT score I got will spread to the other side of town within a week. I walk into an art studio I have NEVER been to before, to pick up an ad for my school newspaper, and the owner/teacher/whatever of that studio rattles off my stats upon recognizing my name.

Having had grown up in that, would you feel inclined to go to UCI, which has been dubbed University of Chinese Immigrants by some people?

Don't get me wrong. I love the Asian culture and I'm proud to be Korean. I'm an avid traditional Korean dancer, I'm very fluent in Korean, blahblah. But please. I just need a break from the Asian ordeal, if at least for during undergraduate.
I wasn't trying to convince anyone from deciding against UCI. Was just expressing my opinion of circumstances.

The thought of attending university with so many other Asians is neat! My high school is probably 90% white, 5% Asian, and 5% Hispanic & African American. I'd like to be surrounded by more people like myself than I have been for the past 2 years!

Muir!! it was my first choice and i'm majoring in human biology.

and, on the race/Asian population issue.
i'm from hawaii, and there are MANY types of Asians here. there are those like the ones from syneria's community, where the inter-connectedness of every single Korean family is unbearably stifling, but there are also those who are third/fourth-generation Asian-Americans (like me) who are completely Americanized but are still pretty proud of being Asian. that being said, I think that college (even UCSD with its large Asian population) will be an eye-opening experience for all of us, and could be very different from what any of us expect, academically or otherwise.
p.s. yeah, i know, I write horrible run-on sentences; so deal with it :).

I got into Thurgood Marshall. It was my first choice based on the brief descriptions of the six colleges I read. Can anyone tell me some info. about it though? I feel kind of stupid that I don't know an overwhelming amount about it.

Thanks!

YEAH!!!
MUIR!

i'm excited. :)

Regarding the race issue for those that live in a dense majority white population with 3%-10% asian population, not ALL asians are closed-minded nerdy types like the ones they potray in the movies. There are many friendly asians that like to have fun, become social, and interact with people. Although education still remains a high priority for us, we still like to party and have fun.

I am from a upper middle-class high school in the suburban Los Angeles area (Pasadena, Arcadia, and San Marino) where it is 50% asian and 49% white and 1% other.... and we mix in well.....

Just to end the post with 2 letters in mind......

AA(Asian Americans) all the way~

yea, there are definetly different types of asians.

but i udnerstand what syneria is saying, since i'm also asian and from the san gabriel valley (where my school is pretty much 48% asian, 48% white)

By the way, MUIR YO!

What school do you attend in the San Gabriel Valley, rdang ?

How are Muir dorms? Anyone checked them out? I heard people say that they were "prison-like"..true or false?

Muir!!!! Got in with a major of human biology. I'm actually considering going more than I did after reading this thread. Congrats everyone.

So Cal and Nor Cal UC's both have equally high asian percentages. UCD is 36% white and 36% asian. Cal is similar.

Muir dorms are the best place to be (unless you are the quiet/locked up in room studying type) at UCSD. Yes they are not the nicest, but they are by far the most fun. Be glad you got in there. Also the GE requirements are the easiest in Muir.

mrxalleycat: from temple city (TCHS)

Hehe I went from a middle school that was 90% white and 5% asian, to a high school that is 90% asian and 5% white, haha, and I really loved it. I much prefer being amonst races different than my own (I am white). So if any of you are worried about some kind of culture shock, you've no need to be. People are meant to intermingle and exchange culture, etc, etc. It'll be fun :) I am in Roosevelt, I expect it to be lots of fun, and I am sure it will be social. All dorms have the potential to be social, so don't fret if you didn't get into muir or choice a different college :)

hopingforthebest, from what i hear, TM is supposed to be really strong in math/science... (mb from all the stereotypical asians...?) lol that's pretty much all i know. sorry =/

SGV REPRESENT!

Just showin' a little Muir love
