collegemom16: UCSD "probably over 50% (Asian)" "UCD 36% Asian"? Where are you getting your ethnic makeup stats from?

According to the UC publication "Introducing the University" for 06-07,
UCSD undergraduate enrollment was 39.4% Asian/Pacific Islander and UCD was only 13.5% making it the UC campus with the smallest percentage of Asians. Yes, even less than UCSB which was 14.9% Asian.

From Princeton Review. I put the actual stats up on another thread. The UC with the smallest Asian population is UCSB.

I picked Muir cus he was an environmentalist and I want to pursue a career in that area. Go John Muir!

KrapGnas you might be interested in this for a housing option in Muir:

Three of our houses are theme houses - Cultural, Wellness and Wilderness. While residents in these houses participate in the same activities as residents of the other houses, each one of these houses attracts students specifically interested in their particular theme. Students apply to live in these specific houses during room selection for continuing students and during June orientation for first year students.

Residents in Wilderness House find it to be an excellent opportunity to express their relationship with and concern for the environment. You will embark on new adventures such as backpacking day hikes, car/beach camping, tidepooling and rock climbing. Don't worry, experience is not necessary - however, enthusiasm and a desire to be involved are mandatory requirements!

muir dorms look like brick houses

i looked at them at the Muir website and they really do look like jail cells

Muir is closest to Black's beach (great sand-bottom break and clothing-optinal in the north part), has a surf shop, is centrally located, has awesome dorms (I LOVE the suite-style), and is just the all-around best.

Go Muir 2010!

so at admit day, did anyone else notice how Muir was the only college that had no extra-exciting or unusual activities? Warren had a barbeque, but what did muir have? we really didn't have anything. What's up with that.

lol true that.. and i thought they were supposed to be the most social. Didn't seem like it on Admit Day.

Let's say i bomb the writing placement exam.. Would i have to take a writing class before i can take Muir 40 & 50 or do i just have to take another writing class along with Muir 40 & 50?...

Is it at orientation where freshman register for classes? If it is how the heck are we suppose to know what classes we want to take?

I heard that after they post your results on whether you passed or not, you still have the option of choosing which writing class you want to take.

So in other words, it's still up to you; they just give a recommendation (on which class you -ought- to take) based on your scores.

And as far as registering for classes...at admit day, I heard you can do all that stuff online over the summer.

Annnd...as far as your last question goes, I don't know. :p

i got into Muir for winter quarter...does anyone know what my chances are for getting housing?

GO MUIR!

They have a choir singing a remix of Backstreet Boys....... and they pretty much focused on the campus tour....

What classes can i take at a community college (i'm in muir)? I wanted to take writing, but i guess i can only take the Muir's writing requirments at UCSD. So any other GE's i can take at a CC?

thanks

Check assist.org.

If you know what you want to major in you can take your lower-division prereqs. Just make sure you call a counselor and make sure the class can be petitioned or credit.

I got into Muir--my first choice. Awesome.

I'm going in as a Joint Economics / Mathematics major; is anyone else doing the same or something similar?

Hi Oyama!

My son also got into Muir, his first choice. He has the same major as you -- joint Math and Econ. Good luck!
